I roll my own dice in my own games and then send King Achilles a message with my results for each assault and he updates the gameboards manually. Defending is harder, but I usually have a bunch of prerolls that KA selects from in a specified order for those times he needs to update manually when I am not around.

I can't win 13v8 or 8v4 to win games, but my opponent rolls 13v18 and still has 9 leftover. Yeah, right.

11v1 loss. =D> I've spent three turns attacking with a deploy of over 13 and not taken a single troop from my opponent. Just rolled 6v2, didn't win a roll. Six turns into a poly4 game and I'm 20 regions down with 3 cards against 6. Usually I accept the dice come in swings and roundabouts, there are streaks, blah blah but this past week has been fucking atrocious.

Why are we still using a limited pool of dice with a quantity well below requirements? Fucking wankers.

Whatever the reason there are perhaps totally random (but not!), yet unrealistic results from the dice. The runs of good and bad results are game destroying. So often you get a run of bad luck and ot ruins the game. There is nothing you can do. Its especially so at the start of a game and it ruins the whole game. By the end of the game or the end of the next two games the results themselves often even out so it all looks fine for long term dice stats, but by then the damage to the game has been done.

This is because you are playing 1vs1 game.
1vs1 game are mainly won thanks to luck. Because you only have to attack one opponent, strategy is really simple, very few choices. There is a few maps that are complex in which you may get some home advantage by specializing and then you can reduce the luck factor if you know the map better than your opponent, but even then, it's still mainly luck if you play 1vs1.

If you want to reduce dice impact in game, play multiplayer game, in which there is many opponents so even if you have a few bad turns you might be ignored and have a chance to come back later. Play team games ( or poly if you have no teammate yet ), which are a bit like 1vs1, since you have to attack opposite team, but way more strategic than a 1vs1 since you have to consider which player can do what, turn order, better to try breaking opponent bonus with my teammate since I can fort him so many troops and so on, there is way more options in team games than 1vs1.

Of course, dice can still ruin your game in multiplayer or team ( and poly ) games, but dice are really less a problem than in 1vs1 in which it's almost purely dice.

Thanks for the pointers Donelladan, I appreciate the effort but my point is that there are unusually long streaks of good and bad rolls that dont happen in real life. What you are suggesting is a way to limit the effects of this on the game, but the underlying problem is the unbalanced dice outcome.

I am not a mathematician. Maybe they are completely random and my basis of comparison is off because in real life shared dice tend to roll the same. Who knows.

6v1 lose every roll. 10v2 goes 2v1. 7v1-1 fail. 7v2 lose every roll. That's in 2 rounds

Add 18v7 to that. Take 1, lose 15.

Sure. Just lost a multiplayer game thanks to failing 17v10.

Another game; 9v1, 2 left.

Agreed. Averages mean nothing. Even the dics stats page means nothing. Its the battle outcomes that are relevent and even there over the longer period they hide the true problem

Observed outcomes are often improbable.

If you want to see this for yourself, just ball up a piece of paper and throw it across the room. See where it lands. Now ask yourself, "What was the chance that this ball of paper would land in this exact spot?"

The answer of course is, very low. Mark where the paper lands and try to hit that exact spot again if you don't believe me.

So just because you received an improbable outcome with the dice does not mean there is a problem with the dice.

For those who want to learn more about this statistical concept, I highly recommend "The Improbability Principle" by David J. Hand. You can get it used on Amazon for only $5.98.

You don't know the background to the "random" dice. Once upon a time an unlimited system was used; all was good and prosperous in Conquer Land. However, along came a nasty witch who took over Conquer Land, set to destroy the infinity pool! After careful, lengthy plotting the witch then sourced intensity cubes from an evil warlock. This warlock only offered a limited quantity of approximately 50,000 rolls. From hereon the random magic has never been witnessed by a mere mortal again. This is why we mourn.

listen, we used random.org, which is the closest you can get online. then it was determined they could program their own and save all that lovely CC booty for themselves... since the change, dice have never been as good as they once were... changed the way the game is played...-Jésus noir

Is there some indication that the odds table here is no longer accurate?:

If so then what are the true odds?

In your analogy, I would be ok with the outcome you describe. I would not expect the exact most likely outcome every time, or even most times. But what i see is 50% of the time, instead of an outcome near the expected it ends up chasing the dog around the house.

And all anyone says is- "well that was pretty random".. and "random is random"
