AUTOMATIC SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL??!?!?!?!?

Everyone be careful if you dont know already. This underhanded shady site will automatically charge you every quarter or year or whatever you selected.

CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION NOW!!! You can always reactivate it if necessary.

The only reason I gave money to this site was to support it.....and then they come back and automatically charge me?!?!? Terrible...

What a POS move for a site like this that depends on a community who like the site.

Coould someone reach behind me and pull the knife out of my back?

If you used paypal just go to your account and immediately cancel it and it will suck the money right out of their greedy fingers. Or dispute the payment.

yeah, you should browse the forums more often... there is a huge thread on this already, and it started pretty much as soon as the change was made...

Subject: Did you know Premium Membership is a Recurring Subscription?

sorry, you aren't really alerting anyone to anything new with this thread...-Jésus noir

Wow, every year my Premium would just run out and I would notice my symbol went silver. I'd eventually go renew. I guess I didn't realize when I did that last time it was going to auto-renew every time after that.

I mean I was gonna renew again probably anyway but this is very underhanded CC.

Yeah, watch out. The subscription reverts to on every single time you pay. So pushing 'unsubscribe' once isn't enough :?

I mean every subscription service I've ever seen renews automatically unless you opt out. What's up with people not checking out the terms they're signing up to?

This is like, the one thing I agree w/ mrswdk on. Its a subscription...unless you aren't paying attention / reading anything when you're buying it, its pretty clear its not a one time purchase

The issue I had, and I took it up with BigWham via a ticket was that it was not very clear that it was a renewal.

Yes subscriptions often do auto-renew but it should be clearly stated. I havent checked for this post, but I recall complaining to BW that the CC signup page assumes the term subscription to mean auto renewing and I dont believe that is correct. A subscription is an agreement to use/ provide a service for a specified period of time.

Many automatically renew and state clearly that they automatically renew and allow an opt out/ opt in.
CC automatically renews but doesnt state it clearly on the signup page (or it didnt when I signed up).

If it was clear described, you wouldnt get so many complaints

Yeah but those terms only use the word recurring once in the first paragraph. Before you click 'Accept' there should be a pop-up which plays fog horn noises and is full bright red block caps text warning you that just like all other online subscriptions this one renews automatically.

Also, what's up with people prefacing the fact they agree with me on issues with 'this is the one thing I agree with mrswdk on'? I feel like Trump over here.

Actually it says once up top and dedicates the whole third paragraph:

Recurring premium subscriptions will renew automatically until a member cancels his/her Premium Membership subscription.

You have to click two links to get to the beef of the matter. Its still kind of hidden.a subscription to a magazine is not auto-billed. I dont see how there is so much support for something being unclear. Why not just put auto-billed right there on the image. Im guessing that Whoever does the putting likes it the way it is because it maximizes income. Im sure there are still players who have no intent on returning that are still being auto-billed. Which is fine I guess if you keep the attitude that they should know what youre buying and keep track of every deduction on your checking account. But i bet the same people are against predators that clean out old peoples bank accounts because they were told they owe mr Obama a couple of back taxes.

Another thing, this would get a lot less complaints if things were not just all of a sudden changed from what it was before. You have to expect you're going to catch people off guard that have not been autobilled for six, seven, eight years before all of a sudden getting suprised. Its no longer an issue for me, because I now know. But peopled dont like feeling like they got tricked. I cant believe there are people that dont understand how some may feel like they were.

Yeah it obviously renews right. I never really considered that it might not.

I wonder if there is a demographic difference between those who assumed it would renew and those who assumed it wouldn't?
- is it a European/British/US thing
- or is it a buy a newspaper/pro subscription thing
- do regular gamers have a different take?

An interesting sociology study for those with more time than they know what to do with.

yeah, since it had never renewed on it's own since you first join way back in '06... it was a very large change, when this occurred... and people are still getting caught up by it...-Jésus noir

I accept that they should have been more clear in communication by the sounds of it. But it isn't an abnormal policy at all.

Including every online game w/ memberships that I've played. I was actually surprised when I first joined the site that it WASNT an ongoing thing and that I had to redo it every time. And it's only gotten more popular / prevalent in the gaming community since.

While I agree it wasn't clear in the beginning and info was lacking for a very short period of time, it was changed fairly quickly and both "subscription" added and he terms and conditions description made it pretty clear to me
