"Cook" Blocking

Postby AlexTo on Thu Jun 04, 2015 9:48 pm

I'm a new member and I have noticed a lot of talk about CC dying, player numbers dropping etc. I don't know if this is true or not, but I have definitely noticed a lot of low rank players deadbeating. So perhaps one reason why CC may be dying is that new players are giving up too soon.

I recently played a game where there were a number of high ranked players and a couple of low ranked ones. One of the high ranked players assumed that I was retarded from the start and made that quite evident in the chat. He repeatedly called me a 'cook' and said that I will always be a cook. However, I actually was the dominant player (fog game) and would have won except for a phenomena I call 'cook blocking'.

When it dawned on this player that I was actually in the winning position, he protected the other high ranking player from me. He purposely helped the high rank, simply because he would rather lose to a high-rank than a 'cook'. This was all openly stated in the chat.

In the end the other high rank won by technical win. Round limit reached, him 109 troops, me 105.

As a new player, I have to say that this type of behaviour seems extremely parochial. I wasn't 'entitled' to win because I wasn't high ranked enough. If this cliquey behaviour is widespread amongst veteran players then it cannot instill much optimism in new players.

you can blame that on the scoring system

There will always be 'worms in the apple' not all of them, a low percent of people love to be in, around, create drama. The site is growing, not quite measurable, but its growing.

I just had a game in Ireland that a person isnt attacking me just surrounding me, keeping me in the north land away from my target. I cant break free due to the 'clever' stacking that person does. Which basically means 3s and 4s around, but carefully leaves a 1 for me to attack, but i cant break through after, due to the larger stack just beyond it.

So the scoring system causes the veteran player to call a new player a retard, then protect another veteran just so the 'cook' loses?

yes to the second part. I probably would've done the same but without rubbing it on your face, I would've paid attention, and if i didn't have a shot, i'll stopped you from winning, you would've costed me like 60 points.

It also depends if the high ranked player feels he's at a score he can't easily get back to. For instance, for me it would mean having to win 6 games if I lost to you just to break even. But if I was at around 2000, a score I know I can get any time without much effort, I wouldn't have cared if you won or not.

It's a problem of the scoring system you see.

If, for instance, my rank would be permanently the highest rank I've attained, I wouldn't mind playing games for fun instead of points, and when I get serious again, try to improve my rank.

Got it.

I suppose the 'cooks' can respond by simply playing irrationally and sabotaging the highest rank player in the game. Over time, the high ranks may stop this behaviour?

Fortunately not everyne does that. I never did and never will. I consider it being totally unfair and close to game throwing ( which is an offense in CC).
Don't worry, most people do not do that.

But making irrational move won't make high ranks stop doing that, every high rank doing it already expect you to play irrational anyway.

I've found that playing doubles against a high ranking pair goes quite well. Even if you lose the first game, ask for a rematch. Then smash them having learnt their play. After that they wont play you again as they've realised you arent easy farm and you can walk away with points in the bank.

Perhaps some of these new players find it impossible to keep playing because of the notorious site lag. Most of them won't come to the forum to report the problem, and the few of them who do will receive the usual "Nope, it's not happening" as an answer.

If that really happened, and log says what you say it does give the game number and point out the poor sportsmanship of those players for all to see, point out to CC MODERATERS that if it wasn't a team game then it is possibly cheating and I don't think thAts allowed
