I was disappointed that the May Monthly Challenge did not reference the soldiers that actually took Berlin and bore the highest life toll in World War II to secure the victory it celebrates.
So this tournament is a tip of the hat to the heroes of bygone days, the soldiers that pushed their borders across a continent and back again. The theme will be the war on the Eastern Front.
September 1939: Germans, then the Russians invade Poland. Map: WWII Poland
Stalin expected to fight Hitler eventually, but not this early. He locked himself in his office drinking for two days as the Germans charged forward. Polymorphic-3, Auto, Sequential, Chained, No Spoils, Fog, No Trench
June 1940: Russians invade Baltics, then lose them to the Germans. October 1944: Russians re-take Baltics from Germans. Map: Baltic Crusades
Stalin refused to surrender is namesake city, and the two armies fought tooth and nail for each street and building. Polymorphic-3, Auto, Sequential, Chained, No Spoils, No Fog, Trench
April 1945: Red Army attacks Berlin Map: Berlin 1961
Retreating on all fronts, even Berlin became a frontline city. (no fog, trench) Polymorphic-3, Auto, Sequential, Chained, No Spoils, No Fog, Trench
ERRATA: • Min 16 players, max 32, premium only as freemiums can't play polymorphic games. • Next tourney round starts as soon as the current "winners fraction" finishes their games. So you MAY be playing more than one game at once. • All games are Poly-3, Automatic, Sequential, Chained Reinforcements, No Spoils, 20 Rounds. The five maps have different settings for Trench and Fog • Scoring: Win 1 point for every victory. Losing players aren't eliminated and keep playing for fun! • Pairings are random against players you are tied with and haven't played yet. • If there's an odd number of players, a bye will be awarded randomly to one of the players tied for lowest score. If someone doesn't accept their invitation, then they play instead of the no-show participant. • One re-invite per round, then you're disqualified. • If two players have 5 points at the end, the finalists will play 3 games on the Stalingrad, Berlin, and WWII Eastern Front settings. Best of three wins the tournament.
