UpdateRound 4 has finally ended, and we now have our 5 finalists.
LittleMao still maintains his lead at the pack, as he has done since the end of Round 2 Set 1 (4th - 1st - 1st - 1st, at the end of each round), with 269 points. However, his lead has now been cut down to 2 points, after average performances in the past two rounds. His exceptional performance in the first two rounds still keep him above the competition for now, but he'll have to fight hard for these last 5 games if he wishes to hold on to first place! It'd be a shame to lose the pole position at the last moment!
Closing in quickly on our leader, we have
Donelladan in 2nd with 267 points. His placing has been improving consistently at the end of each round (5th - 3rd - 2nd - 2nd), aided by his consistently strong play in each round, and has succeeded in closing the gap between that stood between
LittleMao and the rest of the pack for the longest time. Perhaps this will be the time he makes the final push to the top? The top 2 have a comfortable 10 to 20 point buffer over the rest of their competitors, but as previous rounds have shown, anything can happen.
Our next 3 finalists snuck in over their competition after an intense and extremely close competition that ran till the round's end.
ItzPetey (1st - 4th - 8th - 3rd) returned to the form he displayed in the first round of the tournament, collecting the most points for the round with 73 points and jumping 5 positions from 8th to 3rd with a total of 257 points.
shoop76 (15th - 13th - 9th - 4th) followed in his footsteps, gaining the 2nd most points for the round with 70 points, and similarly jumped 5 positions from 9th to 4th with 252 points. Finally,
andypl0nd0n (8th - 8th - 6th - 5th) snuck in with 249 points, aided mostly by the poor performances of the previous 3rd to 5th placed players, thus lifting from 6th to 5th.
Of the select 5 players that managed to win their home games in either of the sets during Round 4, 4 of them managed to qualify for the finals, showing once again the importance of those home map points, especially in the finals where it's time to pull ahead of the others.
Interestingly, 4 of the 5 finalists have played together recently in one of the tournament games.
Game 14900132 was played on
LittleMao's home map with all finalists aside from
shoop76 -
Donelladan won the game.
Just for fun, let's take a look at how each of the finalists have fared on each others' home maps throughout the tournament so far.
LittleMao (
Salem's Switch) has played just 2 games with any other finalist on his own home map (including the above mentioned game), but won neither of those. He has also played 7 games on other finalists' home maps, but won none of those games.
Donelladan (
King's Court) has played 5 games with any other finalist on his own home map, and won 2 of them. He has also played 7 games on other finalists' maps, and won 3 of them - 1 on LittleMao's, 2 on andypl0nd0n's.
ItzPetey (
Feudal War) has played 3 games with any other finalists on his own home map, and won 2 of them. He has also played 5 games on other finalists' maps, but won none of them.
shoop76 (
Treasures of Galapagos) has played 4 games with any other finalists on his own home map, and won 2 of them. He has also only played 1 game on other finalists' maps, LittleMao's home, but didn't win it.
andypl0nd0n (
Battle For Iraq!) has played 5 games with any other finalists on his own home map, and won 2 of them. He has also played 6 games on other finalists' maps, winning 2 of them - both on Donelladan's.
Looking at these, it seems that
shoop76 is the most disadvantaged with the least experience of other finalists' home maps prior to the finals, though prior CC experience should kick in.
Donelladan and
andypl0nd0n seem most capable of snatching victory from their opponents on their home maps. If it's of interest to anyone, all finalists have won on their home map at least 3 times; only
Donelladan has won 4 times.
I'm really excited to see who wins this, so let's get the finals started!
