Hmm.. I do not speak italian and I would not understand that if I was new to this map. It's kinda obvious though, so maybe not a big deal. Thanks Ruben - I'm anxious for any of your comments / suggestions.

Hmm apart from that I don't have much to add come to think of it. This map looks great. However I really prefer the old legend on page 16 to this new one and I also think the map was better without the city flags.

i dont like the flags either...

I think some form of circle or star would be the best idea to be honest.

I like it just how it is. The flags are fine in my opinion. We should really try to get a great map of every major European country out ASAP, and this just such a great map.

FUZZY BORDERS
Image

THIN BORDERS (I prefer thin borders way better - but its up to you all)
Image

  • Expanded Valle D'Aosta borders outward (Orange Northwest) to allow the name to fit within.
  • Expanded Napoli (purple city) border outward to allow the name to fit within.
  • Adjusted white outer glow on Monferrato so it displays better. I could not do anything else with the placement. It's going to fall half in / half out of the country.
  • Changed outer borders on cities to a dark shade of the territory colors.
  • Changed city names to a dark shade of territory colors
  • Added City Colors to legend.
  • Slightly increased drop shadow on water routes
  • Fixed water leaking out of Monferrato.
  • Fixed color tint problem in Venezia

(Above changes based on quotes below)

Guiscard wrote:Firstly, the new borders are a much better thickness but I would put back the slight outer glow you had in the old version. it seemed to make them pop out more and marked the territories better. As for the legend, I think its pretty much fine graphically. I would, however, show what a city actually is, as it took me a while to work it out without looking at the previous version

Gozar wrote:The cities are a little tricky. What if their font was bolder, or a different colour?

Samus wrote:something a bit more complicated/unique for the cities.

steve monkey wrote:...wouldn't Catania be a better name for the South Eastern region of Sicily since it's the biggest city in the region?

Enigma wrote: i also like the old borders, especially the glow, like guiscard and samus have said, ...what might help on the colours- is to make the other capitol colours the same saturation as torino. it seems a lot darker in comparison to venezia and palermo, etc.

KEYOGI wrote:I like the new borders, they're much cleaner and smoother. The glow could be added, but I don't think it's needed... but the rest of the legend feels a bit empty now...My only concern that seems to have gone unaddressed is the font. This is only really a problem in Monferrato though, so perhaps just play around with the placement of the text there...The water in Monferrato is leaking out underneath the border into the dead territory and there's something weird going on in Venezia.

Thin borders, definately...

I love the color scheme. It will be very easy to see the armies.

Also love how you wrote the city names in the color of the continent...

Great job! I'll love to play this one.

I just saw that the Venezia border is still a little screwed up. I'll fix it on the next post.

Can someone explain to me why this map has not reached final forge status yet? There are lesser maps that have that status already...

its most likely because it has been quietly rotting on the 3rd page of the foundry before today and now because the mapmaker is being active again it shoudl reach final forge soon. what lesser maps? as far as I can see the maps with final forge deserve it

I'm not planning on using the army bubbles so centering shouldn't be a problem. I also wasn't planning on attempting the xml until the graphics were solid. I'm hoping it's soon though - i've lost interest in this map.

hmm mayby you could move the sea routes above the dropshadow from the country so it doesn't look like it is going underneath it?

              Final Forge

---The Italy Map has reached the ‘Final Forge’ Stage. I've revived this thread from the pits of the Foundry furnace and have examined the contents. Nearly every major concern has been addressed. If there are any other current concerns, please make your voice heard. There will be at least two days (but may extend pass that) for you to post any objections; if no one has posted any protest after two days the map will be deemed finished with the 'Foundry Brand' of approval and will be submitted for live play. If after two days there is still discussion going on it may continue until said discussion has reached the conclusion that the map has reached its final and polished version.

Post questions and concerns if any.
