Rearrange Medal Display Order

Postby Gilligan on Wed Oct 30, 2013 6:58 pm

Concise description:
  • Change the order of some medals in forum posts/medals page. It appears in the beginning there was an attempt to be sorted, but it seems it went astray as new medals were implemented.
  • In this way, medals are sorted by what kind of medal they represent (game type, setting, map, or just "others"). There is no real order to the way they are displayed now.
  • I know it was said by blake that 5x5 was the max for forum posts, but may as well discuss options for expanding that as well as more and more medals are being introduced. 6x5 seems to be the best expansion, but blake said that it might make forum-reading a pain for smaller screens.

Specifics/Details:
  • Current order is;
    Standard
    Doubles
    Triples
    Quadruples
    Terminator
    Assassin
    Manual
    Freestyle
    Polymorphic
    Nuclear
    Fog
    Trench
    Speed
    Teammate
    Random
    Cross Map
    Beta Map
    Bot
    Ratings
  • Here is the order that I suggest;
    First group - Game types
    Standard
    Doubles
    Triples
    Quadruples
    Teammate
    Polymorphic
    Terminator
    Assassin

    Second group - Settings
    Manual
    Freestyle
    Nuclear
    Fog
    Trench
    Speed

    Third group - Maps
    Random
    Cross Map
    Beta Map

    Fourth group - others
    Battle Royale
    Bot
    Ratings

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • Makes it easier to locate medals by what kind of medal it is.

Yes, why not.

Also add to the op that while they rearange the order, if they could put all lines of medals on the same vertical alignment on our walls.
If you look, the first line of gameplay medal is fine, then the 3 next ones are a few pixels behind. The contribution medals lines are back to normal.

This seems very logical. Whilst not the most interesting idea alone, it adds to other medal/site look ideas.

Here is a visual of what gilli wants to make it really clear.

On the other hand, i kind of like the medals to be in 1 block, i would agree to change the order as gilli suggested but keep them in a block. Also there are 20 different gameplay ones now, and it looks better as a big 5x4 square

But new medals are bound to come out sooner or later so the 5x4 block would not keep its shape then.

Hmm, I would think the same code that keeps the medals 5x5 is used on your wall as it is in your posts. Obviously the first group is too wide to show in posts.

So yes, in that order, but perhaps 5x5 or 6x5 instead of in a single line.

You got some prime information? Which ones? :D
I don t think wham can come up with new medal types forever though. I d put 6 per line then maybe, but in your example the first line looks too long to me.

Six per line would be sufficient for a while, but blake said somewhere that it might screw up people's monitors, or something.

I concur with this idea and the grouping you have set up.

To respond to this, I don't think we know of anything pending, but think about 5v5 games, 6v6 games, random team games, and there could eventually be more.

I'm fine with whatever reorganization makes the most sense for walls and forums.

i know that when i look from a phone or an ipad the forums only 4 per line can apear; the 5th medal of each line starts a new line (so in my case I see 5 linesx5 medals displayed on a regular computer, but when i look from my ipad i see 10 lines)

Yeah the site is not designed to adhere to phones or tablets. It does the same for me. However, bigwham has stated that he'd like to venture into the handheld world at some point.

So about this...

I now have even more medal types, as i ve said many times, for some reason the medals on a wall aren t displayed correctly vertically.
This concerns the lines 2,3 and 4 of the gameplay medals. Look on my wall it looks strange. Why don t you move these lines a few pixels to the left so it looks neat? It looks like sloppy work right now (it has always been that way and never fixed)

Also, the new challenge medal has a yellow completely different from all other medals, would look better if it kept the graphic standards of what has been done till now by previous management
