This was carefully considered by the Suggestions Team, and on balance we thought it was a very good addition for the site, hence our recommendation for it to be implemented. If it causes serious problems for Escalating games, we will of course revisit it. But for now, let's give it time and see whether it works as intended.

But you have to acknowledge the fact, that escalating is not particularly known for stalemates. compared to no spoils or let's say trench (which of course includes esc trench, but that's a different story). So why fix something that wasn't broken in the first place? You could as well give random bonuses in a no spoils to break stalemates, why do you think one is a good idea and the other isn't (i'm assuming you do)?

Escalating games, particularly ones with low remaining player counts, can easily turn into stalemates. That is the main reason for our implementation of the suggestion, as escalating games are (by their nature) supposed to have the cards dominate eventually. Once the cashes get to about 100, usually the spoil cashes are significantly less than the number of troops a player has, which means that there's zero incentive for eliminating someone in Standard. Therefore the system has always been broken (it just doesn't usually matter for small maps). Sure, it doesn't happen often, but we disagree that the system wasn't broken. Please feel free to add your thoughts in the Suggestions topic if you still disagree -- and in general, we encourage you to add your thoughts there often!

Surely there are new things I like less than others, but overall I'm IMPRESSED with the massive amounts of upgrades to this site, since BigWham took over, and I'm sure the site gets better and better. We had lots of awesome updates, like polymorphic games, parachute reinforcements etc. Before everyone was so frustrated with lackattack and the never-coming updates or fixes.

So from me the guy gets a big THUMBS UP for doing a lot of work on this site. Keep it up!

And then I will live with the small things I don't like. And hey, I will visit the Suggestions forum more often, because now theres actually a good chance to influence in what direction the site develops :D


Well said, I completely agree with this. All the new updates are exciting and bringing change of some sort.. most of which is great and has definitely sparked new interest in the site that I didn't have before :)

In Inventory, there should be the "Most Rare Owned" just to the right of "Last Item Won" ... just a quick idea... and btw is it possible to have more than 1 item of the same kind?

Yes, it is possible to have more than one item of the same kind (however, they will show up as one icon (with a number to the left to represent how many you have).

Could we up the font size to be the same as the forums?

I had to zoom in quite a bit to see that the blur under the Red Star said "Unheard Of" and similarly for all the others, whereas I can usually read the forums without difficulty.

Not really Mets' suggestion. Mets did a good job of summarizing the information and sparking some public discussion, but BGthBrain made the actual suggestion (but only for clan medals) over a year ago, and there may have been others before that. It was chapcrap's idea to expand that to all the trophy-type medals. It was my idea to do the levels. It was RDS and the department heads at the time that came up with the actual levels.

Finally, did anyone read the uses for the inventory items here? Lol

I've been staring at my inventory items for hours. I am seeing colors and gaining mystical visions. My wife says I was snoring and they were dreams but I am sure they were not. Try it. 5 hours minimum to life change.

Do I get stars for all tournaments or only CC generated tournaments? I am sure the ones given for my tournaments would be all red.

Couple of things, the tabs under the game at the top are now not correct. Medals and score are under game options, not medals and score. Secondly, the new medal for tournaments, got one but it is not showing on my profile.

@agentcom, we only found about the transformations a couple of days ago ourselves. We need time to digest them and find out what can be done. Expect an announcement by nobodies at some point.

Lastly, and I am going to say my last piece on this as I really have been fighting for this not to happen is escalating spoils.

They wanted it so it got done. No amount of argument against it was considered. A small minority of members wanted it so it go acted on. It was never even placed into the submitted suggestions forum, bypassing any last debate that could of happened. The only reason for this could of been Mets trying to force a change he liked and not many others.

Wow, 44 people like a change over 5 years. :lol: Lots of love for this. As for the level of 79%, that is a really bad number as all of those people wanted different things. So 79% for what has been done is not correct. As for when Duke suggested this once again for the tenth time, it got traction as the suggestions team liked it. We have many suggestions in the suggestions forum that has not one dissenter but will never be implemented. Some have even been suggested over 10 times like a resign button, and again will never be acted on.

One of my many arguments ignored.

There really is no pros (only cons) to changing escalating spoils like this as all spoils can lead to stalemated games. This is just another tacked on change to try and stop stalemates for one set of spoils. Instead, we should have been having a debate on how to go about stopping stalemates for all games. Round limits was supposed to do this but they are not mandatory and the problem continued.

I'm loving all the new updates. I've only come back to the site in the last few days after a year or so away.

One quick question regarding Automatic Game Snapshots. What do you guys mean by Panel Interface? I have BOB and Map Rank installed. I'm guessing I need to install something else to get the auto snapshot feature up and running?

automatic game snapshots is part of the new panel interface that came last update.
you turn it on in "game settings" in Personal menu on left

The Inventory stuff seems cool, the announcements on the sidebar is very nice, but I have to express a preocupation that has been growing on me by some time already:

I like autotournaments, it's very good, but I think that these tournaments are having much more support at the moment than users organized tournaments. Escalating never needed to be changed. There are very, very rarely stalemates in an escalating game in the first place.

Announcements menu should be on by default but optional.

Fix the damn tournament medals! This is the most annoying thing. I submitted a suggestion to get it fixed, and it was, then it broke again and now it's all kind of retarded. There is no logic to telling someone they reached level nine; they can see that because they have the nine medals!

Pretty sure they appear above your games when you login. In regards to receiving them whilst you're logged in, I don't know.

i got mine when i logged in when first updated at top of page said something like you have been awarded blah blah blah drab blah.
but only happened when first updated i see today i have more but no notification.

I agree. I don't check the forum too often, though I'm a pretty active player and I'm still interested in announcements. I for one didn't even know there were challenges! o_O
Before the new layout, I could often see announcements on the front page, but I'm too lazy to go search for them myself now.

Thanks for the updates! It keeps the game interesting. :-)

there is an error for winning games and getting stars...
see we won this Game 13794898 and I got a star but it's description says I played vs BOT which is untrue

It's probably true, but on the other hand, this option does put tournaments a lot more in the spotlights. Community run tournaments may be less popular, but I think lots of them were too simple anyway. Those simple tournaments are now replaced by the auto tournaments, which, in my opinion isn't a bad thing. They will run a lot smoother now! It's also a lot easier to keep track of the tournaments you are in now and I bet there will be a lot of improvements and extra features comming up. I think the first steps to something bigger have been made. :-)
Then again more advanced and interactive community-run tournaments like your History of nuclear war series will be the ones who still deserve to get full. Community tournaments should now be creative to get filled and maybe that's not a bad thing. It may be harder to fill those too, but for that I hope upcomming changes towards tournaments will take this in mind. :-)

It has been changed back since I posted...there were people up at the top with 200+ medals all of a sudden :lol:
