Randomize Bot colors

Postby Vlasov on Mon Jan 06, 2014 9:11 am

As a frequent player of Bot games for map-training and fun, I would like to see random colors assigned to myself and the Bot. I'm tired of always playing Red vs. Green!

This will benefit the site by adding variety to Bot games.

That suggestion wouldn't accomplish would this thread is asking for. At most all it would do is allow is for Vlasov to be Player 2 therefore he would be green and the bot red. (And I am not sure it would even do that.) The same colors would still be in every game.

I guess I should've said "Randomize Bot-game colors" so that the colors would be random for both the Bot and myself, regardless of who goes first.

If we randomize for bot games, why not randomize for human 1v1 too? I think that'd be better.

Why not just allow a player to choose from the 12 colours available when they join a game? Probably a different suggestion.

I would only approve of this if it were limited to 1v1.

I really, really don't want to see a quads team of violet, red, orange, and pink.

Fair point.. How about non-team games?

Still do not like it. Play order is such a big factor in esc games that it's really a pain to have to check the new order of colors. Now I can just go "oh, it's red then green then blue..."

joining in a specific slot, now that's different. it gets you to pick your color, and doesn't screw up the regular order.

I suppose so, but in a three or four player game you're unlikely to get confused. Just wondering where to draw the line. I suppose 1v1 is the easiest option.

Off-topic, but relevant:

I play on another R*sk-type site which allows players to rank their favorite or "preferred" colors as part of their profile. As each player joins a new game, they are assigned their preferred color -- and if it's already taken, it goes to 2nd choice, 3rd choice, etc.

So, the initial colors for each new game are automatically set according to player preference (more or less). Wouldn't that be easier to code than letting people choose a color every time they join a new game?

i've thought of this before, not sure if I've ever posted it.

This would be a GREAT way to get it done. It only works with standard/terminator/assassin games, though.

It would remove the chance of "farming" in an escalating game, joining right after a cook or lower rank.

It could still work in a team game.

However, I'm not sure your initial point about having to rememorize turn order is valid.
