Add more maps for Bot games

Postby Vlasov on Tue Dec 10, 2013 4:00 am

I frequently play bot games to learn new maps, or just for a quick relaxing "victory".

Can't more of the simpler maps (i.e. those without special rules) be used with the AI coding for bot games? What about the California map, for instance?

Adding more maps to the "bot games" list would give more opportunities for "training" on various maps.

Could you please come up with a list of Classic-style maps that the Bots cannot currently play on? That would make this a lot easier to implement if we agreed on it.

Well, how do you define a "Classic-style" map? I expect the coders would have an idea how to implement this suggestion, since they created the list of "playable Bot maps" in the first place!

Obviously size is not a problem, since Bots can play on some large maps (even as big as World 2.1).

Also, the "special rules" that preclude Bot-play do not include bonuses for owning certain numbers of city/terts, as on the "Italy" map (which IS playable). That's why I was wondering about the "California" map in particular.

Vlasov, a classic map would be one without any special winning conditions like holding an objective, or ones without 'complicated' bonuses where you hold capitals etc.

Some of these do have unique bonuses, but even if you remove those there are several basic maps that could be included for the bots. Besides, it can play Holy Roman Empire, Italy and NYC, so I don't think any in this list should be excluded. I guess if auto-deploys are a problem that would exclude about two of the below maps..

What's the benefit of that? Unless they were programmed to play to the best strategy in, for example, an eight player escalating game, then that could be a good way to practice, but there is no way of making it realistic enough compared to a game full of normal players.

Reply to iAmCaffeine:

That is exactly my point!

Why not add all (or most) of those maps you listed? One of the reasons I pay for CC is the huge variety of interesting maps, apart from all the special rules, victory conditions, etc.

Playing vs. a stupid bot is an easy way to learn about a large or geographically complex map, without getting gobsmacked in an actual game.
