[GP] Random bombardments.

Postby koontz1973 on Tue Nov 26, 2013 4:29 am

Concise description:
  • Random bombardments

Specifics/Details:
  • Every round in a game, a random set of territories get nuked.

How this will benefit the site and/or other comments:
  • This would be a special gameplay option like trench and fog.
  • Regions that are nuked would turn into 1 neutral like they do now.
  • This would happen at the beginning of each round.
  • Players would get no warning on which region is to be nuked.
  • It would work on size of map. For every ten whole regions on the map, one region is nuked.
  • It would nuke starting positions.
  • It would nuke winning and losing conditions on a map.
    .
  • It would not eliminate a player.
    .
  • I have called this random nukes over bombardment as everyone knows the idea behind nukes.
    .
  • Title options to be determined by poll
    • Nukes
    • Bombardments

This would shake a few game styles up. :D
A new shiny medal. :D

If a player only had that one territory, how would you avoid eliminating them if that territory were chosen?

What is [SGP]? I think all the tags we use are listed here: viewtopic.php?f=535&t=181919#p3922002

As far as the idea, I don't mind it. Here's my issue though. I have normal, simple games that are waiting for players and have been for a while. There are so many options that games aren't filling, IMO. I wouldn't want another option on top of it all right now without a large influx of everyday players.

Certain that the coders can set limits on what this could do. Personally I feel the ability to get nuked out of a game is a chance worth taking, but I felt that was too much for most within the site.

Special game play as in start a game page. Changed it to what it should be now.

Great.

Always a but.

You are right about the games needing to be filled. I have the same problem. But that has been going on for a long while now and if we wait till we have 15k+ players again, we may be around for a long while. Lets hope that the new management have some tricks apart from updates to help this.

Let's hope. I think a lot of changes that have happened are good and have been needed for a while. Hopefully they continue and we will see an influx of people that stick around. Some Marketing definitely needs to be done as well.

Anyway, I don't think there is much of a mechanicism issue with the suggestion or a gameplay issue that I can think of. Probably just need to let this simmer and see what others think.

About those games not filling: If I remember correctly, before when you tried to create a game with the exact settings than an existing one, the interface told you that there was already a game waiting and offered to join it. Or did I dreamt it all?
Welcoming the long awaited Trench Warfare Setting (Previously Adjacent Attacks).

I believe chapcrap's point is the we now have so many settings (and especially maps) that finding other people who want to play the exact set you do is becoming difficult. Particularly with the lower player count the past couple of years.

It was, but who knows, this may be the suggestion that brings everyone running back. :D

Unless the amount of games without this setting played by those who magically return in response to this setting is larger than the amount of game played with the setting that would otherwise have been played without it then there is still a net decrease in desirable games for someone who doesn't want to play the setting. (Obviously this statement applies to any new setting, not this one specifically.)
