It's amusing how GLG doesn't actually answer any questions. I don't think this is a witch hunt at all. Just a ever increasing pool of members who find GLG's tactics distasteful, and abusive. So GLG hangs around like a shark in live chat. A friendly CC member pops in, probably hoping to make some contacts/friends on the site. Pick up a friendly game, gets worked over by the strategy. Step one, map rank the player, freestyle exp and map exp. Step 2, post a comment on their wall, saying what a good game they had just played, appearing to be friendly etc (exactly what the player went to live chat for). Step 3, move into private chat so that others cannot warn them what is about to happen to them. Get them to set up the game. Step 4, easy points, moves on to the next victim.
Its this that is distasteful, whether it is against the rules as such, is another matter
Its true many people play their favorite map over and over to gain points. I think this practice is fine, as they put their games up to the public, and take their chances on their opponents. Also looking for easy games is fine, as these games are open to everyone.
Back to actual evidence and not the general GLG bashing going on, although I can see why everyone is upset.
The ruling
Basically, in these 1 vs 1 games, the opponent does not have an idea of how to play the map or how to engage in the settings of the game that was made. It's like you constructed a way to make a player become like a "new recruit", because you made a game that he will play for the first time in which you have played countless times already. Regularly doing this to different (unsuspecting) players is a systematic way of ranching points for yourself. These games exhibits a pattern of how someone can methodically target specific ranks or players that have no idea on how to play the map for the purpose of ranching. It's not fair to regularly do this. We will classify this as a gross abuse of the game.
Since we have always seen him as someone who just prefers to play against low ranked players in the past, re-checking his private games with certain settings has shed some light that this practice is more malicious than it seems. This does not mean that no one is allowed anymore to invite low ranks or unfamiliar players to private games. You can play any ranks publicly or privately but make sure that this practice is not done in extreme numbers to the point that you are already doing this regularly, seeking out specific ranks or players in order to ranch some points.
I think what he is going still falls into this category whether he actually made the game or not, he is still telling the player exactly what to set up. However can it be said that he is doing it in extreme numbers.
The latest batch (only 6 games). And looking at whether these players really knew what they were getting into
Game 11329358 hs701cb, does not know the map, but has played plenty of 1v1 freestyle, so should setting up the game meant he went 2nd . Would not have known the map however and that 1st turn wins. Abuse ? 0 forum posts, Questionable.
Game 11321463 Sotan, quite new to the site, only 1 disastrous 1v1 freestyle game, with a trench setting, so would not be aware that 1st turn mattered, and that if he set up the game, he gave away the right to go 1st, never played the map. Abuse, yes.
Game 11315169 jpov06, 67 freestyle games, but only 1 previous 1v1, would he be aware that giving away 1st turned mattered ? never played the map before. Abuse ? questionable.
Game 11308468 Robert E Lee772, 3 previous freestyle 1v1s, should be enough to know what he doing, and the fact that he is giving away 1st turn. Never played the map, but i would say this player had enough XP to go into it with his eyes open. Abuse No.
Game 11307768JackMaxim, had never played the map or setting before, would be totally unaware of the ramifications of what he was being asked to do. Abuse yes.
Game 11216517 King Engineer, plenty of 1v1 freestyle games, had even played the map twice !, Abuse no.
So out of those 6 games, there is only 2 players that you can say without doubt would have had no idea what they were getting themselves into. It is frustrating that he has found another loophole. But is this Gross abuse on a large scale, I would say no.
