Anyway I'm really here to make the point that casual players (who are the players more likely to miss the occasional turn), are less likely to visit the forums, and thus will be underrepresented in any poll.

everyone knows how long you get to make a move, if you miss a turn why should the other players in the game be punished?

"You should get troops, it's not really an advantage"

if it wasn't this thread wouldn't have been created and 70% of the people wouldn't have voted yes. when you're in a game and someone misses a go and picks up 70 troops on his next turn and takes control of the game you'll see how much of an advantage it can be.

I don't see why people do it. It's a waste of time and it never works. I have never seen someone win by doing that on purpose.

Whether it was on purpose or not, I've seen it done, and seen somebody (a doubles team, in this case) win because of it.

At round 3 in a no cards game, you cannot defend against somebody who can drop 9 armies in one spot.

I agree that receiving troops after a missed game is very unfair. it allows people to purposely miss turns and utterly destroy u in the next turn. this is especially so in team games as the teammate will help to protect the player who is missing turns.

 How about instead of getting troops for missing a turn, you get a card?

How about we leave the rules as they are.

If you come across someone who uses this tactic and you don't like it, simply put them on the ignore list.

Why introduce new code when the existing code can supply the solution.

I think it should be that if you deadbeat once, you don't get troops and twice eliminates you.

even tho I have lost a few games due to this very same issue I still believe they should be given but I also beleive that the idea for auto disbursement and no back to back turns on freestyle period should be implemented so that it can not longer be used as a tactic for a win

Deadbeat team mate+missed turn bonus

Postby Timminz on Tue Apr 17, 2007 8:13 pm

I have just experienced, what I consider to be, an abuse of the team mate deadbeat issue. playing a 4 player doubles game, we were in the lead very slightly. The other team then missed 2 turns each and the first player missed his third turn and was kicked out, his team mate then returned to play his next turn and received triple the amount of armies he was entitled to (having missed 2 rounds). The problem with this is that he had just inherited all of his team mates territories, and therefore received triple the amount of armies based on approximately double the amount of territories(his and his team mate's). This seems like a really bad loophole in the rules. Could someone please explain to me why this is acceptable, or if it will be fixed.

good call,
but if you did not manage to hit the other team over the head badly in 3 turns, well then you are not that good.. still getting armies from your partner when you too have deadbeated is to heavy into abuse in my book

If they did what you said they did, you must have a lot of time to kill them.

While I do realize that 3 turns is plenty of time to do some damage, in this particular game, the dice (cop-out)...*trails off*

I will give the game number, knowing full-well that technique will be criticized.

342738

I will not claim that we should win this game(although it appears that we may win by default). I just think it's a bit of a loophole that he gained 3 times the armies based only on the turn where he had just received a bunch of extra territories. In most situations the 9 armies his team mate would have received would be lost when he got booted. In this situation though, having missed 2 turns himself, his team mate's "lost" armies were not lost at all.

they didn't deadbeat right off the bat, so both teams probably should have been developed.
By the way they have played, I would put them on my ignore list after the game, and not play with noobs again (just a tip, since you're a Serg/ Lieut.) *(I think)

They are the first (only so far) people on my ignore list. That was done as soon as I was eliminated. I still think that this particular example is a small loophole in the rules.

Remove armies for missed turns

Postby Gustaf Wasa on Sun May 06, 2007 7:39 am

When you miss a turn, you should not get new armies for it when you get back. I don't know why this hasn't been implemented long ago.

Observe: http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=394345

In this game with an Asia map, aafkmasrhcp (sic) missed the first two turns. Everyone avoided attacking him, believing him to be gone of course, and focused on getting continents. Then he comes back in the last moment, collects 9 armies and is thus able to put them in the continent that now offers the weakest defense, which happened to be Japan, where I was. Clever little cheater.

When you keep getting armies for missed turns, anyone can start a game that way - miss two turns to see where things are going, then attack the weakest continent.

Removing armies for missed turns is suitable punishment for deadbeating. You should not get paid for inactive turns.
