Re: Eurasia [7.1.12] pg25

An idea I've been considering but am not sure if I want to do...

How about merging European Russia to the Eastern Europe superbonus, and renaming the remaining Russia superbonus as Asian Russia?

Currently, it seems like the West + East europe is a really strong bonus combination, compared to other areas that give similar troop bonus. Adding more land to it would balance things a bit. Also, the European Russia area really is considered part of Europe, so this would highlight the Europe-Asia dichotomy on the map.

However, on the other hand, Russia is still one country, and I'm not sure if dividing it between two superareas would make sense?

Anyway, let's hear opinions on this.

It makes sense to move European Russia to the European bonuses. I would only suggest you then swap out the colour with Central Russia.

From a GP point, you have enough small bonuses spread around in the East so Europe may not be as strong as it first looks. Lots of small bonuses mean more players concentrate there early GP there making it harder to grab and hold.

I would change the colours, obviously.

Another upside with the change would be that the remaining Russia would be more feasible to hold, as currently it - as a superbonus - is kind of an Asia to the map...

Anyway, I'd like to hear more opinions, since this is a major change and not something I'm at all sure about.

Ok this is by no means a final decision, but I didn't have anything better to do so I made this to see how the change would look.

In all honesty, I think this will work out pretty good IMHO.

Which? The current version or the proposed change?

As in, the one on this page or the one on page 1?

Thanks. I'm going to wait to hear some more opinions though, I don't want to make a hasty decision on this...

While waiting for further opinions I did some small gameplay tweaks to the alt. branch - I reduced the value of Siberia since it seemed to me like it shouldn't be that strong of an area, and added a sea route between Novaya Zemlya & Svalbard.

Ha ha, no way in hell...

I'm still not sure if this new arrangement makes sense though. Mainly, as it splits Russia into two different areas... The gameplay is more balanced this way I think, but not sure if it's better thematically.

It makes perfect sense. Russia is split between the two continents.

I also prefer the new version.
As for making sense... you don't always use strict political splits in larger regions and continent bonuses -> e.g. India Subcontinent splits India in half, while adding other states (Bangladesh, Pakistan) in the mix. And since one could als0 argue that there is a real divide between European Russia and its territory behind the Urals, it does not bring up any obvious issue.

Could you try to do a next version with army numbers? Some territories seem to be rather small - e.g. Switzerland, Tajikistan, etc.

There is a version with army numbers somewhere here... maybe a page or two backwards.

Ok, so far all of the feedback seems to be pretty positive... unless I hear any contrary points of view soon I'm going to go forward with the new version.

Ok, since no one seems to be complaining, I'm going ahead with this version.

Fixed some territory labels and tweaked the colours a bit.

I think the gameplay is starting to be pretty much done now... a gp check would be welcome about now.

I suggest you to switch Near East and Middle East name
it would be more accurate geographically

another suggestion is for Turkics
maybe Central Asia

How? As far as I know the terms are used pretty much interchangeably.

I could rename Near East to Western Asia, but that wouldn't be totally accurate either, and I'd like to minimize the amount of cardinal direction-based names where possible...

Well "near" suggest a closer and less extended area than "middle"
plus if you go for Central Asia "middle" will cover "near" and "central"

That's good, I'll just add them to my collection of monkey thumbs.

So, I guess there's no further gameplay input?
