The Biannual Mafia Awards December 2011

Postby strike wolf on Thu Dec 29, 2011 4:26 pm

Greetings town and all the scum hiding out there in the dark,

For a while now we have celebrated in game victories and thrown about good play comments even the occasional prizes to the best of the best of the best (Sir!) in games but where we're going now is a forum wide recognition of all those scummy knife wielding backstabbers, those daring heroes who may have taken a bullet or two hundred defending the town and all those recruiters promising free pizza when you join them as well as the mods who make it possible. So without further ado, I present the 2nd...excuse me 1st Mafia Awards ceremony.

The awards will be handed out for the best games, best mods and best players for the year of 2011. Everyone gets one nomination and it will be decided by a panel of 5 judges. This will be for the full year of 2011 however future award ceremonies will be biannual.

Signed by,
Don "Wolf" Corleone

Timing: biannual event.

So, does the nomination system stay the same as the first awards?

Yes, yes it does.

You would send me or Strike a PM (or you can send them both just to be sure ;) ). Yes, EVERYONE is eligible to nominate.
But... It was so artistically done.

Ok, 1 more question. It says there are 2 special awards, but only 1 category. Does that mean that special recognitions are capped at 2? Or is there a typo of some sort here

It is indeed a typo - it used to be the addition to Hall of Fame, but we've decided the judges will vote on that and that the nominations are not necessary for it (although feel free to make your suggestions).
But... It was so artistically done.

I would like to note that voting is only going to be here for 2 weeks and as of now... I have only one vote + my own ideas on who to vote. It would be nice if we could get a bit more on this front :o

Maybe we should institute public voting? That way we can generate discussion and keep this going. Or the very least maybe encourage people to be digging up games and their highlights.

Public discussion is definitely encouraged and I don't think anyone has any problems with that. The actual system has already been set up for judges and their voting, so I do think we should stick with at least this ceremony and see how it goes. There are back draws for both public and private voting and I think during the discussion, that we'll try the private ones first and see how it goes.

If people think it is best to have it publicly, I have no problem with that.

I favor the Academy Awards style process where nominations are public, the top 5 or however many are chosen, and then the judges pick out of the possible ones.

If more people want this, I don't think we'd have a problem of announcing 5 possible winners for each category before the actual ceremony.

That's what we mod's call stealth editting. Unless we click something so it shows up it doesn't.
