Gen.LeeGettinhed - Farming[cleared]es

Postby Gillipig on Thu Nov 10, 2011 1:23 pm

Accused:
Gen.LeeGettinhed

The accused are suspected of:
Actively seeking up inexperienced and low ranked players and inviting them to play against him in very advanced games. A.K.A farming them.

Game number(s):
Many. Way over 100!

Comments:
Search for 1v1 games on game finder with his name and you'll see a lot of games against low ranked players. On a lot of these players walls he's invited them to play games against him. I've dug up a sample of them to prove that it's systematical farming he's been doing. Not farming of newbies, but farming of very low ranked and experience wise almost newbies. He's first to initiate contact, they don't find him he finds them.
Is this acceptable behavior? Do we want field marshals to actively seek up low ranked victims and invite them for games? I think his intention is clear. He wants easy points. There's no reason to believe otherwise.
These are messages he's left on various low ranked and inexperienced players walls (he played at least 1 game against all these players):

Do you see a pattern? He even uses the same phrases over and over again. I don't want to think about how many low ranked players walls he's posted these phrases on. A field marshal inviting cooks to play 1v1 games on the field marshals map and settings isn't my idea of fair play, and I hope it isn't CC's either!

If this isn't systematic farming, then nothing is. Nice research GP.

Been looked at before and nothing will be done, farming of this time is allowed and not frowned upon at all by the mods as it does not involve newbies. I agree with you guys tho and i suppose its the only way some people can keep their rank. There are others tho. I really dont know what they see in doing this they must be so rank/point oriented. I will dig the original report out when i can be bothered

Thanks, that's what I think too. I found it as I stumbled upon a cooks wall, and saw a message from the second highest ranked player on it. Needles to say I thought it looked a bit fishy. So I decided to look further into it.

Farming ONLY and SPECIFICALLY applies to taking advantage of new recruits. ?.

If this doesn't result in some sort of disciplinary action or warning I'm going to do the same thing he's doing. I'm going to farm the living heck out of cooks and cadets too! If it's legal you wouldn't have a problem with it right? You wouldn't mind if I and a couple of others experienced players set out to farmed all low ranked players on the site on the most difficult maps!? Hey I'd be a field marshal in a couple of months too.

I said the same but just couldnt do it. Sadly some people are just too honest. Good luck with this though but the mods are not interested as its not against the rules and i think the rules were written at the same time as the ten commandments and cannot be changed. Shame tho.

Gen Lee is a free styler. This is how free stylers achieve high rank . The dude would be a Captain if he only played sequential.

Yes this is cheap tactics as far as I'm concerned and can't imaging how he really gets any satisfaction from these games/opponents but it is not against the rules. It is also not against the rules for an occasional lucky cook to win 100 points from GLG.

Hmmm i had a quick look at his games, the first 8 pages i could only find 8 Majors (highest ranked opponents) then it was pretty clear that he targets low ranks. To me that's farming, and very cheap tactics, praying on the in-experienced. How else could have an 80% win ratio?

The erm, unwritten part of the written rules:

"Obviously any gross abuse of the game is forbidden. This includes but is not limited to: throwing games or deliberately benefiting from thrown games, intentional deadbeating, holding players hostage, serial teammate killing, hijacking accounts, systematically "farming" new recruits."

Now it's fairly clear that this player had a system for farming points from new recruits. What's to discuss? Why have that as a rule if it's never enforced? The guy had a set template, a set pattern of behaviour to get inexperienced players to play him on pretty advanced settings. He was obviously targetting new players to the site.

Am I missing something?

They are low ranking players but not necessarily new recruits. The 'system' turns a blind eye to this one

jefjef is correct. The farming rules only protect ?'s. Gen.LeeGettinhed is CLEARED.

If you want to play that way there is nothing to stop you except maybe your enjoyment or lack of playing others who are possibly still learning how to play the game.

Hmm it seems JefJef was correct, but can I just say that this is pretty messed up and open to abuse. Ranking up from ? to cook requires just five complete games, and a score above 1. That barely covers the variety of game types and maps on this site even remotely adequately. Why have that in the rules at all? Has anyone even enforced it recently?

I realise that you're just enforcing the rules as they are currently interpreted, but (and I'm not sure how comfortable you are replying to this given your position as a mod), do you think that the interpretation of the rule should be changed?

From your response earlier you seem to be a bit uncomfortable with the current interpretation as kind of an unpleasant tactic against those who are learning to play the game.

The suggestion forum is the slowest working forum on this site! Very few suggestions becomes implemented and those that do does so after usually 2 or more years of waiting. But I don't think we need to change the rules. I think what mrgivinghead is doing falls under the category gross abuse of the game!!

A delicate way to say it is that most people are aware of the issue, but ES hit the nail on the head -- it's very difficult to come up with a set of rules that make sense but won't result in a lot of grief for the C&A mods figuring out who's farming and who's not.

Hmm, this makes sense, but I do genuinely see this as a case of farming new players. The rule as it it stands seems to not really apply to anyone at all, at least in my experience on the site. Has it ever been invoked?

If it's the case that after you pass 5 games, it's a free for all, then the rule should be re-written to reflect that and to avoid a fairly understandable reading of it as prohibiting the systematic farming of new players. If it's players with less than 5 games, it might be worth just putting that in the rules.

Yes, many times. Aalmedia(Don't know how to spell his name), was given a point reset because he was exclusively playing NR's. I think Krapht and a few other Feudal players were warned.

But if the victims had played two or three more games, they wouldn't be noobs on a feudal map?

That's a tough map at 5 games in.

I do appreciate the point, though- that it was enforced before.

I'm actually with you on changing either the rules on playing new players, or, change it so a person is a new recruit for a longer period. Say, instead of 5 games, it's 10/15
