The round has been open for almost a week now. Players who can't play on tougher maps should probably join all 3 games at the beginning of the round, so they're not left with slim pickings at the end.

Initially there were tons of Classic, Random, British Isles, Canada, Arms Race, and Doodles. Just that those tend to sell out first, and the less popular options stay "on the shelf" longer.

Two options for the players with complaints: (1) Stay on top of the forum and request maps that you want to play on or (2) stay on top of your PMs and join games soon.

On (1) HA has been very clear on when this should happen. It's always at the beginning of the round and he announces it in the forum. He's been pretty generous taking a lot of his time to make all kinds of games that player's request. I haven't made any requests yet, but I've had a lot of fun flipping through the games and seeing all the different options out there.

On (2) Players know roughly when the round should be starting. There's more than enough time even for freemiums to clear up one, two or even three slots in preparation for the beginning of the round.

Actually, those maps probably were the leftovers. There were quite a few Classic maps at the beginning. I played one of them myself. So don't criticise HA that some people were faster than others so that they could pick their favourite maps.

I count 70 classic maps. There are a number of Canada, British and other relatively straightforward and simple maps.

Im thinking that should be enough. I think its pretty great that HA manages a lot of different choices. Ive tried to mainly play on new maps. Certainly, Ive tried hard to stay away from playing a map where I already won a game, and I find it fairly straightforward to find a fresh map to play, even in round 11 and even though Im a freemium that tend to have only 1 spot reserved, so my third game is usually in fairly close to the wire.

Granted Ive lost a lot of games, which does help in keeping my options open, but still... that makes it a pretty good selection for my taste. And after all, the tourney was set up with a few medals, most pointing towards playing different opponents and different maps, so it shouldnt be a surprise that its not the object of the tourney to drown oneself in classic maps, should it?

In order to keep the map options open it might ... migth be an idea for HA to entertain to make a few more random maps, or for that matter add 10 or 20 for the last couple of days if there are none left. But thats up to HA of course and indeed that may already be a consideration thats in the fairly large workload that HA has taken on.

Good work, HA.

I made over 550 games for this round. Plenty to go around--those were all players choice maps which consisted of about 20 when the walled me. I also used all the ones turned in on the thread by players posting. It is a tourney leehar--you don't always get what you want to play on.

If there is not a need for more maps in a round I will not be making any more games/ maps this round. I will announce when the round will end and give two days so at that time I will make more maps/games if needed, but if not needed don't expect more available games. It would make no sense for me to make more games if they are not needed.

As we get down to the nitty gritty --do not expect much choice.

I myself am not ashamed to admit that I'm not that good on unfamiliar maps, so I join at least 2 games to start, sometimes all 3. I saw pages of Canada, Classic and other "simple" strat maps so as long as one stays on top of the joining you should be good. It's like someone getting to the party late and complaining that all the good snacks and booze is gone. If you want to get in on what you like and have fun, get there in reasonable time because no one is saving anything or making anything special just for you because you take your sweet time getting to the event. Same with this tourney. If I end up with no selection, I'll be pissed, but only at myself since it would have been my fault for dawdling.

Although I have to agree with one thing--LESS WATERLOO GAMES!!

HA can't accommodate every timezone. Your 8PM may be his 3AM. he's not going to log on to create a bounty game at that time. Bounty games are a little bonus he adds in.
taking a break from cc, will be back sometime in the future.

of course i dont expect HA to be on 24 hours, there is real-lifes, what i saying for game/bounty creation think of the other time zone, think of bounty/game that is more time friendy

the reason i post this is that i notice there is a lot of unwarranty comment. a good example is this post, i just put a note to remind him to consider other time zone player when he do the creation, it is just a consideration factor. I never ask him to accomodate every timezone .

I do apologize if my comment come out a bit blunt

it is all good--I have had the same concern and in the beginning I tried to do some in the morning as well. With my current schedule of two jobs along with a very limited time schedule during the week, most of the time I can only work on tourneys for a little while in the evening before bed. I will do the best I can, but no promises for different times on starting rounds and bounties.

Lol, nice to see so much heat on me for a relatively innocuous comment.
But anyway, to clarify somewhat.

I personally really don't care whether there are complex maps out there or not. I believe I'm a good enough 1v1 player and know all the maps well enough to stand my own very well on any of the maps that are in play. But as I said in previous post, it just seems wrong that so many people should be subjected to the whims of the few who want 1 or 2 games on their farming maps.
It's all well and good for some of you who said that the solution is just to join early to get the maps, but what about the numerous fremiums who are in this tourney? They don't have that option to choose immediately, so now how many freemium lower ranks do we have playing on these maps like Middle Ages? No offense to them, but they really don't stand much of a chance against capable opposition.
I could now choose to face some of them on maps where I've already won tournament titles on, but frankly I hold myself to a higher standard, and I'd actually prefer it if more people actually got the chance to face each other on a more even keel, then being forced to adhere to the map whims of the inimitable farmers.

Anyway, possible deadline for this round? At least I'll have some time before bowing to this pressure of joining the unsavoury selection of maps afforded currently

Im a freemium. I have limited experience/number of games.

I won two games this round despite starting all my games second this round. Granted its not something I do every round or for that matter expect to do next round, but I found Battle of Iraq and Clandemonium very interesting.

I admit that I got my arse handed to me in Battle of Iraq last round, but Clandemonium was my first try. - Admittedly the attacking dice for both of us were out of shape to the point that Im not sure either of us had a round where we killed more than we lost and my opponent had some awful dice at a couple of rather crucial points.

Im not sure if I have a point. Maybe this: If you pick a freemium with limited rating at this point, its on your own head if you expect a walk-over. - All of us have weaseled through 11 rounds at this point, so there is a pretty good risk of running into someone with a reasonable amount of talent for the game, even if their stats may not be impressive.

The second point is that Ive found it very interesting being prodded towards new maps in this tourney simply by the long shot of winning a medal from it. Challenging as well, yes, but its quite rewarding to pick up a new map fast enough to tip someone that thought it would be easy points. I recommend it to all freemiums. - Study the map well before you begin your first turn. If in doubt read the discussion thread on the map.
