Cheating - laholaesmia [closed]

Postby Steve The Mighty on Fri Sep 30, 2011 2:54 pm

Game 9826877

Accused:

laholaesmia

The accused are suspected of:

Abuse of rules and unfair play

Comments:

Under the rules for this tournement the first player eliminated is out of the league. Laholaesmia deliberately attacked me to ensure the other opponnet won the game making the game unfair and against the unwritten rules listed in the rules forum

2011-09-28 21:09:13 - IcePack: GL 2 all. The first player to die stays in frost, the other two are promoted to the Icey League.
2011-09-28 21:10:12 - IcePack: (and just to point it out, the game ends @ 50 rounds so it does it doesn't end in stalemate)
2011-09-30 15:05:05 - Steve The Mighty: No good hitting me blue you are giving it to red
2011-09-30 15:35:05 - laholaesmia: i don't need to win, i just need red to take you out first
2011-09-30 18:29:21 - Steve The Mighty: He might just take you out for playing a defeatist way
2011-09-30 18:30:44 - laholaesmia: you're right, he might. we'll see
2011-09-30 19:35:22 - Steve The Mighty: I hope he does to make the game a little fairer
2011-09-30 20:24:30 - gqmecock: i'll get out of the way and let you two attack each other
2011-09-30 20:48:00 - Steve The Mighty: Either way I think it is poor sportsmanship - playing to lose just to go through - no doubt against the rules as well

If he advances in the tournament because you are eliminated, then it will be allowed. There was another thread about this kind of situation: http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=153961

Fair enough but I still feel having read the post you listed that this player is not playing in the true spirit of the game. I will let it rest and put him on the foe list - that way I don't have to play him in the future. Please close this thread.

I would like to see this rule tidied up for the future so it is clear

you should contact the TD's or the creator of the tournament if you have a beef with how someone inside that tourney is playing and they can direct you if it was within the rules set up for those games or not.

Huh. A tourney run by a KOA member and a 3 player game with 2 KOA members in it. I would almost be inclined to yell foul but I know them all and am quite sure that it's honest.

The strategy used in re of the special rule is absolutely within the spirit of the game. It's obvious that gqmecock got a very strong drop and lahola is doing what he can to not be the 1st eliminated.

But I will say If I learn some of my clan are ever playing underhanded/dishonestly they will very likely need to find a new clan...

It is clear, it just isn't the way you want.

Ran by 2 KOA members!! The game is made because it's a tiebreaker game.

Anyway, there are multiple tiebreaker games set up in this manner and everyone knew. Steve, you should have weakened him back! Especially with a 50 round limit, lahola needed to do something besides just sit.

Even though it's ran by two KOA, I take painful efforts to ensure my tournaments are unbiased.

However in the tournament the rules are clear, if there's a tie for promotion or demotion, all tied players get put into a random game and the promotions / demotions are based off the result.

In this particular case, 4 players are being "promoted" into the next tier up. There are 4 slots, the top 2 players took the first two slots. Then there was a 3 way tie, in which only 2 slots remained.

Per tournament rules, all 3 were dropped into a random game. The 3 players weren't selected by any TO or KOA member, it was determined by round robin results.

The method for determining the player who remains in the middle (frost) league was put in the title so it was clear to all, and I also posted in the thread.

Ultimately, this is a legitimate strategy for tournaments (I've been on the short stick of this type of action as well) even though controversial. Ultimately no action will be taken on our part as it wasn't explicitly restricted in the rules for everyone to follow.

The tournament is long enough that all players will have another opportunity to get into the Icey League, and win the tournament.

As always PM me or ChapCrap for any questions, and if there's any conflict of interest I will get a neutral party to give a ruling on it to be fair. (likely a TD)

Thanks and GL to all!

Since this seems to be a tournament issue/tactic, and seeing the tournament organizer is already aware and has stepped in to this report, I am marking this closed. If you do catch him throwing games in other games, especially in non tourney games, feel free to report it.
