There has not been a definitive answer on that question yet. However, I'll say again that it should be what you started the tourney as. CC (the folks who approve the GA medals) shouldn't reward people for not paying the site.

I think it came down to:
a) There's no record of who was freemium when the tourney started
b) The "reward" is a little icon under your name in the forums (or in many cases, another number on that icon). If you're holding out premium waiting for that prize, you probably weren't going to buy anyway.

a) I'm sure that CC keeps track of when people pay them
b) So are you suggesting that the rule be that a person has to be a freemium when the tourney ends?

CC isn't running the tourney; HA is. Could they compare a list of usernames with their accounting records to determine who was premium or freemium at a certain point in time? Probably. Would they, for a tournament? Probably not.
I'm not suggesting anything. I'm just stating what I believe was mentioned in the thread, but I'm not wading through 300 pages to see if that's right.

I assume there are still several hundred left, though
As for first time tourney players, Im more at a loss. Anyone have an idea of how usual it is being a first timer?. - Given the excellent publicity of this tourney, I assume that there were a good number of first timers when starting, and there should still be quite a few of us around, though possibly fewer than the freemium count?
zeractal wrote:i don't know what infomation on who is/was premium is avaliable to HA but it sounds like they will only be able to see who is presntly premium, if so the only possible way to do the GA would be on who is fremium at the end that lasted the longest and checking if they believe they are eligible (someone in kondrad's position might decline for example) ,if there eligible give them the medal otherwise go to the next person and so on.
its not a great way but atleast its do able and means the acheivment will mean something to who gets it

That one's easy since you can just search to see if the player had any tournament games before the start date of this tourney.

Yeah, I know I was just wondering if anyone had any idea how many first timers are left. - Its still somewhat of a massive task to chew through 543 players
