Question for you HA. On p.176 someone asked the question whether the two games would count that were being played against the same player (who had joined two of the author's games). You said "Yes, each game would count".

Doesn't this open the door for two players to mutually agree to win one game each against each other and thus both proceed to the next round?

I realise it's a tough one, and there's little one can do if someone joins two of your games (though the simplest solution is not to put one's name up for three games at the same time).

Don't suppose when the number of participants drops to a reasonable level you'd publish a list, and next to each player put the names of the opponents they have already faced (info you might already have)? I've already forgotten who I played in R1 !

It's fairly simple in the Game Finder to locate all the games in a given tournament with you as a player. If you use the Conquer Club Saved Searches script, it's a piece of cake.

Thanks ender. Unfortunately nothing is simple on my PC (it's 15 years old) and I can't run any scripts. There are some maps I can't even open and some games that if they go beyond Round 50 I can no longer play (everything freezes).

But yes, you're right in respect of using Game Finder. I was aware of that, just I didn't want to have to do it every round coz it's painfully slow.

"Get a new PC" I hear you say, lol.

Im still confused on the 2 games that was joined by the same player. I won one and lost one and there was no deal made like the situation described above. I had really crappy dice and he won one. I still dont know how anyone could be making that mistake at this point with all the pm's and post in the thread outlining the rules. I made sure not to join games with the same player by checking all games played against a person before joining games. But if I dont move forward I understand...would be a bummer since I did what I could for that not to happen but cant control what others do. The Pelo War game that I lost ended first..if that has any bearing on what happens.

I will quote this and respond to CoF. I will be doing spot checks for players playing against each other and patterns of more than a few players playing with each other. As we get down the road and I notice player A has played player B multiple times they will get kicked out of the tourney. When someone joins games you got into first it is not your fault but it is their fault. I had at least 8 players pm me that they had done so by accident. With so many players --a lot of mistakes are happening. Many players are new to tourneys. Many players don't take the time to read my pm's. I can give reasons for this but usually my opinion on this would be construed as negative. All in all things will work themselves out. When I do a tour stats and copy the whole thing it gives me who has played who and since I am really good at excel I will catch cheaters eventually. evilkingjay--you are fine so no worries.

Still 1500+ players in this tourney, but we will get down to a manageable number and that is when my private detective skills will kick in.

HEAR ME NOW--IF YOU ARE CHEATING YOU WILL GET CAUGHT.

There's no doubt that jay's above board (in fact I think it was him that even brought the two games to your attention). I'm just saying though, there could be instances where two unscrupulous players try this tactic.

I guess players could foe anyone they have already played (until the end of the tourney) - this would prevent accidental joining of games by the other party.

Re all the PMs you send out. No doubt there's a lot of good info in them, but I'm second guessing that some people just don't read it all (there's usually so much content that it can be a deterrent to some), plus all these bounties and 'guess the number' games kinda clutter up the thread, so anything posted in pages 2-178 is pretty much lost already.

This is no criticism on my part btw - I'm loving this tourney and am in awe of the amount of time you put into it (and the patience you have - I'd have kicked most out by now), but am just thinking of reasons why quite a few players seem to be struggling with the rules & deadlines or asking the same question ("How to win a bounty?") over and over again like a parrot on acid.

Quoting this because it is absolutely spot on. You can tell just by reading the thread the people that are enjoying the tournament [for myself, I'm happy to see a very active thread instead of the usual dead tournament threads].

As for the rules, if you read the PM, and aren't intentionally trying to gain an advantage by bending them, then you're fine. It's a really simple concept - join 3 games per round. I personally find it very easy to keep track of the 3 players I've played in a single round, but honestly haven't bothered to check if I played them in the previous round(s) - the odds of playing the same player twice unintentionally are astronomically low at this point.

The bounties and other little rules can get a bit confusing, but like most games, generally, if you're not trying to cheat, you're likely not breaking the rules.

Foe's do not work in tourney games.

As for lost info in the many pages--this is true--but this is why I made the 2nd through fourth pages very clear in my opinion.

I do tend to send out a lot of information, but the info I send out comes from the pm's that come in with the same questions over and over. Still all in all I would say a high 90's percentage get most everything by now.

I am glad to see all the posts, pm's and walls that come in saying how good a time everyone is having.

Round three next week sometime--still 70 active games in round 2.

Considering the number of players, I dont actually think that the number of repeated questions have been too bad. Granted, I dont have to go through HAs pms and I count myself lucky. Im sure it causes HA some extra work and a bit of grief, its just that its sort of expected.

Its my first tourney as well, but I figure once we (assuming we do get through) get to a more managable number of players, there will be very few left that havent read through the rules, pms and the front page numerous times. There will still be a few. I assume there will still be several very young people left in the tourney by then and probably some with a less than fluent english. Its sort of excusable for a ... say 14 year old finnish Risk enthusiast to miss even important points, especially when she may be new to both tourneys and conquerclub. - Less so for old gnarly types like me with reasonable english skills, even if we may be just as new to tourneys and conquerclub ;-)
)
Its still commendable that you show such patience with the mistakes and repeated questions, though :-)

One question. Not sure if someone has already brought it up, but if so I missed it: Will you consider pushing a round off to an early start, for instance round 3.- That is start a few maps and games out early even before the final games of the previous round are finished? Or will that make for too much trouble with some people joining round 3 games, expecting to get through, then not actually getting that crucial win in round 2, when the chips are counted?

That is a GREAT idea, but may complicate matters for HA.

Starting R3 before R2 finishes is asking for trouble.
