I'm not too phased by the perspective to be honest. I think that to get the lovely detail of the forest and camps you need that angle, but if the castle was the same we'd lose the playable area... I think that we have enough flat maps as it is, and this one is looking pretty sweet. Its not like you can't get your head round it, but it does give it a sense of movement, as if you're flying down over the siege in a big swooping cinematic camera shot.

I say keep it.

p.s. you really shouldn't have mentioned you were a graphic designer :D

I don't think it would be too hard to give the castle some perspective. You wouldn't need to change everything, mostly just the outer wall. If you showed some of the face of the outerwall it would look a lot less like a floorplan and it would fit better with all of the surroundings.

I think the problem is you have a birdseye view over the castle which means you are looking back to the trees & fence. Meaning the perspective is wrong. It could be fixed so easily.

People complain so much about the british isles map being geographically wrong, but think its fine for perspective to be wrong.

Someone tries to do something fancy with 3d texture effects and people give him crap about camera perspective.

I still don't like this map anyways, not sure why... I do know it has nothing to do with the graphics.

yes, that is what I imagined it to be, a swooping fly over, if the trees were reversed it would be a fly over except away from the fortress. I can get rid of the trees, fence, and tent an all the 3d stuff. but a top down view of fence doesn't look so cool.

thats the problem with a trying to a realistic map, peoples perfectionist tendencies come out. I have no qualms with the bridges in most geography maps being the size of mountains, I just let my imagination get some action as well, I suggest people do the same with this map.

oh yeah, i am a graphic designer but i mostly work with the music industry, or large graphic data sets, this is my first map, or anything similar.

Cant wait wait to bombard helms deep with orcs and catapulats and battering rams :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I just dont see it as swooping down. I see it as A birdseye over the castle. Which is what it is. Seeing the map doesnt actually move. I dont get the swooping impression.
When it comes down to it I thought someone that is supposedly a graphic designer could do better.

God your a pain in the arse Teya....Just stop being negative and f*ck off already...

All you do is be little people and their projects.

I have never seen you post anything optisitimtic or uselful in these forums...its all negative from you.

I think the graphics are fantastic and its impossible to have the castle 3D!!!

I think the trees look great and adds sumthing new to map making on this site.

theres many forms of abuse keyogi my friend

My father taught me if you havent got anything constructive to say dont say anything...

Teya has already stated twice how MIBI is a graphic designer and thought he would do better!!!!

Come on lets give map makers all the incouragment they can get no put them down (you included keyogi). They spend hours working to make these beautiful maps..

Statements like Teya's are unwanted and uncalled for period

He didnt teach you very well then because you had nothing constructive at all to add to the conquer 4 thread but you kept posting anyway.

yeah, gee sorry for saying something is wrong.
I am perfectly within my rights as a member of conquer club to voice my opinions. Just like you hulmey.

Ive said the trees look good. But would look better if the perspective was fixed. That is my point. But Ive notice that whenever someone mentions something to mibi he doesnt like he goes the way of "its my map I'll do what I want" He even stated as much in a thread of qwerts.

oh so now we get down to the real reason

Im annoyed because the way u speak to people is not preductive at all and i consider it insulting...

To state that you accepted more because he is a graphic designer (twice) is uncalled for.

and yes i did post two times only in the conquer 4 thread that i didnt like the map...However i also said Keyogi should apply his talents elsewhere because he is a good map maker!!!!!!

Maybe you need to dust up your people skills a little Teya.

Ps i wont post here again because we are off topic and its not fair on Mibi's thread..So if you want to take this further open up a thread in flame wars and i'll cya there

really? it seems to me that i have iimplemented almost everyone's suggestion in this map, from different textures several times to bonues, to no 4 ways, to shields, to tunnel changes, to border changes. I think the stubborn one is you, who has become whiny since I haven't implemented your changes, of which I have already refuted.

I can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time, as a graphic designer, I know this.

Don't like the map Teya, don't play it.

Definitely agree with you Mibi. Its not a little change like moving a couple borders, but a major alteration to the map. I think you've explained yourself well enough to leave it as it is, and although several people have said they'd prefer a change people have also spoke up for keeping it the same. You've made plenty of changes which were needed even though it didn't seem like you actually thought they were neccessary (i.e. 4-ways) Map makers prerogative says it should stay in this case IMO.

eh???

I don't think encouragement is always the best thing to offer. Some maps need to be shot down before too much work is put into them, and others have faults or areas of improvement that need to be commented on.

I thought it was worth commenting on the perspective because I saw it as something that could be improved. It sparked some discussion and with the results roughly 50/50 I can understand why mibi is keeping the current perspective. I find it disappointing, it would've been nice to see an option at least, but it's not the sort of issue that's going to hold this map back from Final Forge when it comes to that stage.

Well, it's too bad this has gone into vacation, but I think there is a compromise in this.

One side thinks, "This is great, everything is nice as it is, and I don't like Teya."

The other side thinks, "The perspective is all @#&*ed up and the map should be reworked to compensate."

Why don't we just change the tree texture to reflect the current bird's eye view of the castle? No reworking the borders around, none of this crazy the entire map needs to be revamped. Just one minor change in the tree texture in the bottom right. Could that work?

well if the tree texture is reworked, then the tree wall has to be as well, and since those are reworked, the river camp should as well, and the two bridges also. so its a bit more involved than just one texture. That being said, I like the 3d aspect, i think its different and adds some depth, which in turn could make players think they have their armies IN the woods, and not just on a flat surface that represents the woods. As for the perspective, well that is all in you look at it...

I guess some of us are going to have to agree to disagree. For me it seems you've got a mix of 3D and 2D graphics and a wonky perspective.

In most cases I'm willing to make changes against my better judgement for the benefit of the map. Sometimes a new idea that I didn't initially like looks better and I'm glad I went through with it. I think there's enough people requesting a change for you to at least give us an option. If you're not going to change it or give us an example of an alternative option then I guess we're left with no choice.

That's not how the foundry works though. It's a shame some cartographers get stuck on small issues and wont work past them.

Hehe spockers......the only people that want to change the 3d trees etc...are Keyogi and Teya!!!!!

So why should mibi make alterations for 2 people when the majority either dont mind or like the 3d prespective mibi has implemented???

There's a few more than that.

- KEYOGI
- sully800
- DiM
- Teya (fourth person to mention this, first person you have a dig at)
- unriggable (I think)
- qwert (seems to be a swing voter)

So that's four definates and two possibles. Enough for most cartographers to at least give us a look at an alternative.

It seems that it's only hulmey and Guiscard that are saying to leave it as is.
