The Draft Stamp

Why don't you Cartographers give out the Draft Stamp anymore? It's so pretty! And it makes you feel like you've accomplished something upon induction into the Gameplay Workshop.

I posted this question in Q&A and no one answered, then I PM'd MrBenn and he didn't answer, so I thought I'd post it here

I'm not 100% sure why we don't use it anymore as I wasn't on board when they did away with it. I would suppose that it has something to do with the nature of the melting pot. The Melting Pot is, well, a melting pot of both ideas, drafts and drafts worthy of pursuit. It's not necessarily a stage in the development of a map like Gameplay or Graphics are and for that reason it isn't being treated as such.

You feel like you've accomplished something? :shock:

If your map comes out from the melting pot it means that you have accomplished something really important, stamp or not.

I always think that the melting pot is the most important point of the whole process, because it separates the "to do" from the rest.
Moreover,the draft stamp was/is related too much with a sort of list that is no more applicable within the current mapmaking process...the first modeling phase of the map is more based on a good idea and in finding the right way to turn it into a CC map, than a simple check list and a bunch of friends.

The draft stamp was retired, as nobodies has said, as I wanted to remove the "checklist" mentality from initial development. Mapmakers should be aware of the wider marketplace, and think about the things that will define their map and how it will appeal to a broad spectrum of CC players. My initial thought behind the design brief was more about having people applying for map development than taking it for granted - CC is definitely at a stage where it could afford to be choosy about which maps are likely to make the grade...

Some sort of foundry brand may be appropriate, although I'm not convinced they convey the right message for mapmaking (this is perhaps more general than just the draft stamp) - after all, the one rule of the foundry is that there is always room for improvement and alteration ;-)
