I actually tossed this idea around for a little while before I decided to do the briarsburg game. I didn't know if there would be enough support. I had even thought up some interesting game mechanics for Kira. Maybe I'll start it after my briarsburg game. Although thats not gonna be ending for a looooong while I bet.

viewtopic.php?f=213&t=46265&hilit=death+note+mafia 2 & a half years too late  Didn't play it but the mechanism looked really weird. Worth a look...
I liked Death Note but I'm not sure if it's the most suited for a mafia game, or the powers need to be really toned down.

Yea, that one looks extremely confusing. Mine was much simpler. I still doubt we would have the support for it though

The problem with the first. Death note mafia was that the townwas a bit under powered. There were 4 anti townroles capable of killing (maybe 5 I can't remember if mikami was in it.) And 2 of them were both bullet and lynch proof. I did have a role that was both a vig and cop but I had to post in thread to get a kill...which promptly got me killed.

5 mafia killing roles? Impossible. There can only be 2 people each night that have the Death Note.

A nice mechanic I figured was to give the "Kira" group the choice who to hand the Notes to during the night. Then the ones without the note, if investigated, will only turn up scum if investigated by a professional (e.g. L). If they're investigated and they do have the note with them, the guy will turn up as scum and the note will be handed to the Town faction after capturing it.

How 'bout that?

Misa, Light, Ryuuk, Rem. I know for sure were in the game without looking back on it. each had the ability to kill limited or not.

LARPing, that stuff makes me cry inside. They can be down right hilarious when viewed as satire, even when they are often intended to be serious...

still dont watch the movies, but they seem to have a decent budget, and about live actions, is true that most are quite B, but from time to time you find the weird pearl, it happened to ga7 and me with honey and clover, it was lovely, very solid acting and scripting.

No it really doesn't WE played it in my Calc 2 class a few years back. Needless to say we didn't get much done after that.

I only larped WoD (world of darkness from white wolf a true RPG universe) but that was a very long time ago

Oh and the dude is the absolutely gorgeous, sexy and talented actress Katherine Moennig, in this shot as "Shane" from the TV serie "The L Word" *sighs* so pretty

I'd LOVE to play a death note mafia game.

Mafia roles could be Kira, Misa, the 2 shiniamis and Mikami (the prosecutor/district attorney).
Pro town could have L, N (possibly as a deputy) and others less interesting guys.
There would be 2 3rd-parties. Yotsuba corporation and Mello's gang.

Honestly mello could have been the coolest character in the show if they had given him a bigger part.

I find it hard to be cooler than Kira and Mikami. Those were some cool cats! :D

But, yes, Mello could have been better explored.

Never watched it, I was not a real anime freak in high school. Although I would love to play/host DBZ mafia. Clear cut characters and sides, could be an interesting one. Also, one of the few anime I'm relatively familiar with.

I think Mello would've been a better replacement than N. I hated N, he was just a carbon-copy of L, only less interesting.

But I gotta say L was by far my favorite character. Kira was a whiny fucking baby.

Depends...

Kira up until L died > L
Kira after L died shouldn't even be compared with L.

Also from what I've heard the creator of Death Note originally wanted it to be Mello who ultimately caught Kira (personally I think this would have been a better ending and I still consider Mello kidnapping the reporter who worked with Light as being the deciding factor in his downfall but I'm biased). I can't remember the reason he gave for ultimately deciding Near would catch mello.

Erroneous. :) But I guess that's my opinion. The whole impetus behind Kira's motives were whiny imo, not to mention the fact that he used people while claiming to be their savior. He constantly used cheap tactics and conducted himself (go figure) like a spoiled brat. And way to spoil the plot, yo.
