How does saying "jobs are for poofs" fall into any of that?

Did you and Colton even read the thread? Look at the bold.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=poof

"1. A British derogatory term for a homosexual male. "

Did you even read the definition? Using a "slur" does not qualify as being hostile to, or intolerant of, those of differing sexual orientation.

Yet there is a history of bans/punishments for "fag" and "nigger", both of which are considered slurs. No leg to stand on here.

All I'm saying is that it's not bigotry. I didn't say it's not against the rules.

Also, you should be banned. You posted those words.

He posted the words. At the point where he isn't actively calling anyone one of those words, why is it any different from what hairy potter did?

Really? You don't see the difference between stating a word and using it derogatorily?

For once I 100% completely agree with MNDuke here.

I don't understand why this is deemed to be worthwhile to spend C&A time on. From an American point of view saying poof is like saying pussy at best, nancy at worst. It's not like he said "jobs are for faggots" or anything. It's like, whatever, big deal. Someone is looking for attention.

Not that I condone this, just that inevitably this whole thread will be about semantics with the danger of making slippery slope precedence, and there are goddamn multis and cheaters out there. :|

Now, logic (or whatever this is) isn't my strong suit, so feel free to tell me if I'm wrong. I'm just trying to bring up the subject.

"jobs are for poofs"

It has to be one of the following:
1) He believes that only homosexuals should have jobs (and what does this imply)?
2) He views having a job as negative thing. He views homosexuality as a negative thing. Therefore...

f*ck it, I'm doing terribly.

But you must catch my drift.

Metsfan, how the f*ck can you think this is akin to saying,

You are doing terribly. It does not imply that he views homosexuality as a "negative thing." What it obviously means is that he's saying that jobs are for [some group of people he doesn't like], and he inserted the word "poof." Does that mean he literally thinks jobs are only for homosexuals? Obviously not. Therefore he's using this word as a stand-in and it means nothing. I hear the word "fag" used all the time when it has nothing to do with gay people. I agree that the use of the word is unfortunate. I absolutely disagree that it has anything to do with intolerance of homosexuals, except that perhaps society's general view towards homosexuality is what has allowed it to become so widespread in usage.

How can you defend hairy potter? What he put is equivalent to jobs are for faggots. Just the English twist of it. It was used derogatorily. Same intent if he had used the "n" word too.

I'm not defending anyone. All I'm saying is that it's clearly not bigotry, because bigotry implies some intolerance for homosexuals. Saying "jobs are for faggots" does not imply that he is a bigot. The fact that he used a slur does not mean that the word bigot should jump to everyone's mind. Don't use the word if you don't understand its meaning. If it's unclear, here's a flow chart for your reference:

Did the person in question say he is either intolerant of homosexuals, or state that they are inferior in some way? ---------- NO -------------> Not bigotry

Not necessarily. In this country it is more of a joke these days. As can be seen....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4_Poofs_and_a_Piano

If he wanted to be offensive there are far worse words he could have used.

Also, I smoke more than 20 fags a day....that does not mean I kill more than 20 homosexuals a day. If you dont understand the nuances of your mother tongue, that aint our fault.

Seriously, this goes beyond ridiculous. There is no need to start a thread over the word "poofs." Can we all quit being so sensitive (to those who take offense to poofs) or get a fucking hobby (to those who have nothing better to do than scour the walls of cc looking for anything that could possibly be used to start a C&A. Not trying to flame here but get a god damn life already).

This is the kind of annoying shit that no longer makes cc fun. I'm just glad I'm not a mod. Having to deal with a bullshit thread like this would piss me off to no end and I would punish all of you who have tried to give it credence. This isn't a social networking site, its fucking online risk.

I believe this thread was started solely to point out the hypocrisy of "hairy potter" starting a bitchfest about the "f-word" on a picture of Jesus being offensive, while having a derogatory slur in his own profile. Childish? Probably (and I was admittedly a part of it), but it's not like anyone was "scouring the walls of CC" looking for the word "poofs".
