Coach Ricrem was ecstatic following his team's stoppage time win over Real Salt Lake (7514433) as the Red Bulls won their 4th game out of 5 (along with a draw) as they try to make up ground in the playoff hunt. CCN caught up to the coach for a quick chat,
CCN: Coach Ricrem, how does it feel to pull out such a surprising victory?
P.R: Well I was pretty surprised myself. All indications (no spoils, balanced drop) were that this thing was going to end in a 0-0 draw. I mean I've coached on this field before (Canada is probably my favorite map), but even then nothing pointed to this outcome.
CCN: Can you tell us what happened to set up the winning bicycle kick?
P.R: Well we were playing pretty defensive soccer for most of the match, lots of counter attacking in the first half. Around the 75th minute (round 10) though I decided to go for it, knowing that draws won't do me any good if I want to catch those teams in the west for the last wild card spots. Sorta threw caution to the wind and pushed my guys forward (finished conquering Ontario for the monster bonus), and hoped his defense would be too tired to respond. I got a bit lucky (some bad dice on his part) and we were able to keep the pressure on before that beautiful strike just before the whistle.
CCN: Plans for the rest of the season?
P.R: A more aggressive approach to my games. If you look at the standings we're among the league leaders in ties, which is damn good and all, but with only 8 games left in the regular season, we simply need more points. I mean sure I take a moral victory (literal win) out of some of the ties, but at this point we need 3 points out of every effort if we want a shot.
