XML Checking

Postby MrBenn on Fri Jun 25, 2010 5:18 pm

Hello folks,

For those people who have maps in the Final Forge, or maps nearing that stage, could I remind you to make use of the ConquerClub Mapmaker tool (http://www.conquerclub.com/mapmaker/index.php) to ensure the XML validates OK, before submitting it for the official XML check thread (http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=50034).

Thanks

And i have an issue (as you know) with this XML checker for the Stalingrad map.

I cannot see what i am checking on this map because of the configuration of the rods that allow visual checking.
some are ||, |_|, etc. and this doesn't allow to check for specific things like bombardments only or borders.
It all seems to get piled in together and "rods" are combinations of the aspects.

IS there any way that some specific buttons such as used for Size of Map or Army Quantity can be added to the XMl Checker to allow us to check these aspects properly.

And while i know we all make mistakes, isn't it also part of the Official XML Checkers job to ensure that all the xml is correct before stamping is done??? Otherwise what do we have that position for?

Things are also listed under the image, i don't understand why you can't check specific things.... :?

Because I am a visual person, not a great reader with "aged eyes" ;)

Also most people who play the map don't read loads of lines of instructions. They are visual also.

So having that facility would help tremendously.

I don't understand. What is the problem? The white "rods" show the connections, one way borders and bombardments. What else do you need to see?

One doesn't need to see anything else, but it would be nice to see them seperately also, instead of all lumped together.
You could then check for bombardments only, borders only, etc.

Yes C. It is visual, but on this map of stalingrad it is also highly complex, and yes i am not perfect, but beign able to check them individually would be a great help.

And here is my case in point.
I wanted to check for the bombardments from Sadavaya Art, but i also got the borders, the attacked by, the bombarded by...and then i can't scroll down to read the bombared by because i lose that facility as soon as i move off the region in question.

Same thing happens here in XML Tool on Map Inspect

I am not criticising these tools in any way...merely saying it would be nice to be able to check individual aspects by themselves without all the other aspects. This could be done by having a drop list/buttons for these individual aspects. :)

So you have so many connections that you run out of screen space before you can verify which territories connect to what? That's a legitimate concern. Perhaps Yeti could work on a way to perhaps "Click" the territory moused over and "hold" the data for that territory when you have to scroll down to see it? I think that'd be easier to implement than a large amount of menu options for a "show bombardments, don't show two-ways, show one-ways" approach that you're originally suggesting.

As an interim solution, have you tried zooming in/out?

Get Lack to agree it - and I'll do it...

Of course - the new web developer should be proficient in Javascript too...

Another solution could be to have the map inspect information appear in a tooltip, so you wouldn't have to scroll down to it. Again, this might need to be optional, since it could obscure other information on the map.

Yes. I did this in a Stalingrad game, couldn't see all the connections. Worked very well.

Just saw this…I meant that before zooming out I couldn't see all the connections; after doing it, it worked.
