My BOB has stopped working. When it loads, it simply hangs with a "parsing XML" error. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing it, but to no avail.

Can anyone help please?

Anyone having problems might want to post:
1) game numbers
2) OS version
3) Firefox version (Help/About)
4) Greasemonkey version (Tools/Add-ons)
5) BOB version (listed to the right of 'BOB Menu' on the left of the page).

I'm curious enough to pull the games up to see if I have any issues with them and let Sherkaner know (haven't yet had any issues on my games with 4.10.1).

I'm running:
Ubuntu 9.04
Firefox 3.5.6
Greasemonkey 0.8.20091209.4
BOB 4.10.1

Issues are on all games:

running Windows XP
Firefox 3.0.15
Greasemonkey 0.8.20080609.0
Bob 4.10.1

It hangs at "Initializing BoB"

I just loaded all your active games on Ubuntu and XP SP3 and saw no problems. The XP PC loaded slower, esp. on your high round games, as it is an older, slower Pentium III with 512MB RAM. But it loaded all of the games.

If you are able, you might try upgrading Firefox and/or Greasemonkey to see if that helps. That info would help Sherkaner. I understand if you aren't able to upgrade.

PCs I used:

XP SP3
Firefox 3.5.6
Greasemonkey 0.8.20091209.4
BOB 4.10.1

Ubuntu 9.04
Firefox 3.5.6
Greasemonkey 0.8.20091209.4
BOB 4.10.1

Thanks for the help impassive, I don't have the time to investigate now or somewhere the next 2 days (I hardly have time to take my turns). And it doesn't really ring a bell at the moment I'm afraid.

Thanks for the help, impassive.

Unfortunately, I cannot upgrade, so I would still be interested in a solution at some point. It does seem like I am not the only one.

My PC is neither ancient nor new. It has adequate memory. I tried loading really simple games (2 player, 1st round, simple map etc..) and got the same result, so it is not simply a "performance" issue.

Just loaded your active games with an older Firefox (3.0.11) on an even older, slower 3rd PC - Pentium II 384MB RAM.
All loaded ok and obvious BOB stuff seems to work ok. Loads a lot slower of course, your 356 round game took 27 seconds. But all the games seemed to load ok.

Just a reminder - I'm not doing thorough testing of BOB - just seeing if BOB loads and obvious things like stats and light ups work.

It appears the older version of Greasemonkey is a problem.

I downgraded that last PC I tested with to Greasemonkey 0.8.20080609.0 and duplicated what you're reporting. It appears BOB is using a function called 'GM_listValues' that doesn't exist in that version of Greasemonkey. Once that error occurs, BOB stops and never clears the 'Initializing BOB' message.

I think your real option is going to be to upgrade Greasemonkey, because I can't see Sherkaner maintaining compatibility with old Greasemonkey versions, esp. when there have been pretty serious security issues with older versions.

I'm running:
Windows Vista
Firefox 3.5.6
Greasemonkey 0.8.20091209.4
BOB 4.10.1

I'm having problems with advancing troops after conquering.

They just won't advance (nothing happens), I look to the old drop down menu and that is empty. So i have to refresh and then use the drop down, which works OK but diplay window just says "Undefined"

Are you running any other addons (Clickable Maps, or what not?) I find disabling and reenabling these things sometimes sorts things out.

If after doing what ender516 said you still see the problem, there are a couple more of things you can do to help sherkaner narrow down the problem. First, disable all the other GM the addons like ender516 said, but leave them off while you test advancing troops. If still a problem, hit <ctrl><shift>J to bring up the error console, click on 'Errors', than click on 'Clear', and then do the advance. Any error messages that show up there can help in figuring out the problem.

Has anyone else had problems with reinforcements using BOB? Several times now, I've selected the territory to reinforce to, only to see it change when the drop-down closes. This last time, I noticed it and changed it back, but the territory changed again as I hit the Reinforce button. It's going to end up costing me dearly in this game.

I just noticed the slowdown when closing, tomorrow I'll have some time to see what happens there (though it doesn't make sense to me yet).

I managed to upgrade greasemonkey (was a serious pain to do it because of firewall issues) and it fixed the problem where it hangs with "initializing BOB" or "parsing XML". I would recommend that as the way to go for any with similar issues

I am still having the problem whereby, if playing a medium sized map, or above, when closing the tab, or looking to move to next game, the PC hangs for several minutes before offering the "unresponsive script" window.

I played a couple of speed games, keeping the windows open all through the games, and when I tried to shut the windows down, I had enough time to go out to buy my lunch before the "unresponsive script" message appeared.

This has happened on three different PC's running different configurations, and is becoming a bit of a pain!

I have uninstalled and re-installed greasemonkey, but to no effcet.

This is the first problem I have had with BOB (as it does not happen if BOB is disabled).

Sadly I cannot imagine trying to play the game again without BOB. It would be like going back to the Model T Ford!

I'm just spitballing here, but I would suggest you make sure that your Firefox is completely up to date, Greasemonkey the same (though it sounds like you have done that, unless you uninstalled and reinstalled an old version), and then get all other scripts (Clickable Maps, Map Rank, ...) out of the way while you get the very latest BOB in place.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried all of them and, as the problem is on 3 different PC's...I am lost.

Just happened to me again in the middle of playing a Two Tribes 12 inch mix at my wife's request, and as the whole computer hangs, I am trying to explain what the problem is - with little success!

Army placement on old snapsots wrong on the new classic map

Postby impassive on Wed Dec 30, 2009 9:22 pm

It appears that the army counts on old snapshots on the new classic map are being lined up according to the map the snapshot was saved to, and not to the new classic map. New snapshots line up fine.

I cleared firefox cache, but no change.

New snapshots line up, old ones from before the map changed do not.
