I think it's time you guys bury the hatchet...

this site is already saturated with the standard gameplay / geographic style map - it's just rehashing the same thing over and over.

If you feel that way, check out my Proteins 101 map. There you should find something refreshing and non-geographical...

Not to sidetrack gim's thread, but I have no interest in the protien map whatsoever. Molocules and Risk do not combine well for me. So thats why I'm not commenting in your thread. I have nothing to add. Sorry.

If there was anymore crap floating around in that space I would be forced to take a plunger to it.

My advice to you is this. Increase the amount of negative space you have about 500% until whatever is being excreted from the top of the map is entirely gone. Then go watch Conan the Barbarian. Come back with a map that incorporates Conan's themes in both the game play and design. Come up with own design, not some crap you googled. Then you might have something worth putting your time into.

Or, and this may be a better solution, you can just flush the entire thing down the foundry drain, wash your hands, slowly back out of the room, and pretend like you didn't stink up the place with the largest turd CC has seen since that Jamaica map a while back.

yeah that was one of my favorite lines. Tactix seem to take it and go on to be a better map maker. Perhaps it could happen here.

So why is it "allowed to continue?" See bold: because it works. It may be blunt, but you need to grow tough skin and realize it is some of the best criticism you're going to get. mib was referring to the Citadel thread, where upon taking mib's post into consideration, Tack came back with a wildly better map that was worthy of quench.

gimil, I DID report this. I have not received any response whatsoever, from a mod. It seems that mibi, 44, and others are just too important, and have too much seniority to garner any kind of action by the mods. This proves that their is indeed a "good ole boys" network alive and well in the Foundry.

This made me chuckle. Thanks captainwalrus. :)

FTR,
I never said "the old school Foundry guys" I only said that a very small group of them are juveniles that do not know how to conduct themselves properly among other grown ups. And that the rest of the Foundry seems to be turning their backs on this fact. For the most part, the old school Foundry folk are pleasant and very helpful to us aspiring map makers. I just wished they would speak up against their "children" and show a little monitoring that they obviously need.

Also Andy,
I noticed that you took the time to respond to CW's humorous quip, but you did not see fit to address the main issue, that I and others have been trying in vane, to have MODERATED. Please for me and the others, address the issue. Why do you allow people like mibi get away with the kind of posts, that he made in my Conan map thread.

The fact that you didn't get a reply doesn't mean that there is a 'good ole boy' network. It simply means that a moderator hasn't responded to you concern. If it were still me I would of at the very least responded to your concern. So I can't say I approve of no communication from the boys in blue.

As for mibi, he has always been rough around the edges, but I have noticed his 'attitude' airing a more on the side of offensive rather that helpful over the last year or so. I feel that (not what he says) but how he says it (i think)needs to be tamed.

Ultimately thou, mibi says what he thinks. anything short of a ban won't stop him doing what he does or make him change.

Thanks for your honesty and understanding on this. For me, please read what he said in my Conan map thread. "rough around the edges" does not quite define it correctly. His comments are not only flat out against CC forum policy, They are down right vile, and destructive in nature. By saying "ah that's just mibi speaking his mind" and oh, "he is just a little rough around the edges", Is just the sort of turning a blind eye on his disgusting behavior, that I am talking about.
Point in fact, I recently received a weeks "time out" just for typing the letters "F, U". How is it that, a select few "old school" folks, do not seem to be subject to the same rules as the rest of us lowly CC members ?

And if THAT is not the definition of an "old boys network" ...I do not know what is.

Thanks pork but I would rather not be labelled as part of the problem. I will have a discussion about anything with almost anyone and I try to be rational about everything but you are going to start throwing blame recklessly (as you just did) make you as guilty of bringing down the atmosphere as anyone else.

I have never encouraged, condoned or tried to cover up anything like what we are talking about and I would appreciate that this maintain a discussion and not a place to begin arguments, unless you can fully justify starting a legitimate one.

Remember discussion is more prosperous that blame or conflict.

My opinion on Rasklahbavikovx and porky's opinion on the Foundry? You've brought the general feeling of disdain onto yourselves. Try using all criticism to contribute to maps, instead of saying, "I wish that you would come around to [our idea of the map's direction]. It really is an interesting perspective on the subject." Maybe it's too late. You can bitch all you want that there is disdain towards you, and I will not deny that. But you have undeniably brought it upon yourselves. I can link at least twice the amount of examples I showed of instances where I was flamed or baited. If you wish…

If you feel that I am trying to issue blame to anyone in particular, I am not succeeding with my communication. I am only trying to tell it like it is, from my understanding.

First you need to identify the problem, then through discussion it may be possible to fix the problem. We have not even come to a consensuses that the problem exists yet. After the problem has been identified, and then after it has been acknowledged by the parties that are contemplating it, only then can you discuss the reasons the problem exists.

Blame as you call it. can be dealt with at that point. But to me it is not about blame. It is about the third stage, and that is simple fixing the problem. And, that is all that I am concerned with here. I am sure that if you were in my shoes, you would want the same thing.

It takes two to tango...

Most of the foundry "oldschool" are probably at least twice that age, and I'm not sure how wise it is to go around referring to anybody as "delinquent" and not expecting it to be considered as baiting material (if not an outright flame toward a specific 15 year old).

Did that really happen? Which moderator was responsible? I'm not aware of any "disciplinary action" like that from the foundry team... If you're not telling porkies (;-)), then I'd seriously suggest opening some dialog with Andy - I can assure you that any abuse of moderator powers is handled seriously.

porkenbeans wrote:gimil,

Just because you're not copied in on correspondence between moderators and other CC members, doesn't mean that we are turning a "blind eye", or that the "house is not in order". We may not always handle things in the best way, but we handle things to the best of our ability at the time - after all, we all have real lives that should take precedence over this virtual world...

If you were to include a link to the relevant post, you will observe that the direct-flaming content has been edited out. I did not consider the rest of mibi's critique (which is undoubtedly unpleasant) can not be considered a direct flame as it attacks the map and not the maker. This is the distinction which is perhaps unique in the foundry... I have personal experience of people being unconstructively critical of my work. While this doesn't make criticism any easier, the ability to divorce yourself from your work to look at it subjectively helps us to develop as an individual and as an artist.

I will have a discussion about anything with almost anyone and I try to be rational about everything but [if] you are going to start throwing blame recklessly (as you just did) make you as guilty of bringing down the atmosphere as anyone else.
porkenbeans wrote:Point in fact, I recently received a weeks "time out" just for typing the letters "F, U". How is it that, a select few "old school" folks, do not seem to be subject to the same rules as the rest of us lowly CC members ?
Did that really happen? Which moderator was responsible? I'm not aware of any "disciplinary action" like that from the foundry team... If you're not telling porkies (;-)), then I'd seriously suggest opening some dialog with Andy - I can assure you that any abuse of moderator powers is handled seriously.

I did report this quoted post. I received no response from any mod. This goes to prove that there is indeed a "good ole boys" network alive and well in the Foundry.

Mr. B,
I did NOT call the "old school" foundry folks all 15 year old delinquents. I was referring to just 2 of them. The rest of the Foundry folk are very pleasant and fun to work with.

About the "time out " for typing "f,u" yes it really happened. viewtopic.php?f=468&t=95664&start=360#p2213882 I blew up at what I saw was a politically biased attack against Democrats. Isiah's Fractured America started out calling the Dems. commies and socialists, and the Reps. as flag waving patriots. I admit it. I blew up on Isaiah. I typed FU. and went on to call out the political rally, that was disguising itself as a map project.

Through personal messages I have come to know Isaiah a little better. I am glad to say that he has seen fit to accept my apology. I was wrong to blast in to him that way, even if I still believe that what I was saying was true. It still gave me no right to act in such a discourteous fashion.
Furthermore, I am also happy to say that we have actually become friends, and help each other with their map projects.

I forgot, and it has fallen off my inbox.
Yeah it really threw me for a loop. I have been a CC member for over 2 years, and I have never received any disciplinary action.

About the modedit, I appreciate that. But I still maintain that the whole post itself is NOT within the CC guidlines. CONstructive criticism is one thing, and DEstructive criticism is another. If CC is to not follow this distinction, Maybe it would be best to take the word "constructive" out.

Just to clarify, I did not report that post because I did not like his critique of my map per say, It was the stalking that mibi and 44 has waged against me. They have been like a tag team. jumping on top of my posts and projects at every turn. I can't get away from them.

I've not been made aware that you have been given a week's forum vacation - that would seem like a contravention of the guidance that we're asked to moderate by?... If this really happened, then I would expect a full public apology from the moderator who was responsible!

PB did deserve his ban.

On the same note killing and mibi has stalked and baited PB. So much that his Jamaicamon thread got hi jacked and locked. I personally think warnings should have been issued. And that Mibi post in the conan thread was WAY over the baiting line.
This post was made by jefjef who should be on your ignore list.

Spot on. Your ability to communicate is not as clear as you obviously think. On the forums you need to be crystal clear with what you type. What you want to say and what you actually say can more than likely be two different things. i think that may be one weaknesses you have porker, and thus where ever you are, conflict resides. No that you like conflict of course, just that you don't seen to realise what you say is a lot more argumentative than you realise or intent.

But that is not a conversation for this thread

What do you know about map making, bitch?

Words of advice, Warnings and Forum Vacations will be meted out where people continue to neglect the CC Community guidelines. Hoever, CC has never aired dirty laundry in public; and I do not intend to start doing so now.
