This is brilliant. you could still find the correct coordinate without making a mistake because you would not have to converge two lines. This idea would allow you to make the numbers a bit larger maybe.
About the font, Maybe you have the settings, not set correctly. In any case for some reason or another it is NOT working on this map. I hope that you can get it figured out. :?

I still don't understand what you mean settings. I am using pixel font. No anti aliasing. The small font is supposed to look like it does. It is not a mistake.

I really don't understand why such a big deal was made about the small text, especially since it has been 99% the same since the map start.
Here are my reasons for wanting to keep the pixel font.
    1) Similar map (large to Small) look and feel. I don't want to change the large font
    2) The Bee Hive is a very precise and organized map. The pixel font gives that feel. The softer fonts don't
    3) Plenty of other maps use very small fonts (see back a couple posts of mine)
    4) I think the other fonts look bad.
    5) The other 2 fonts are MORE fuzzy and blurry than the pixel font

But once you all who don't like the pixel have decided between #1 and #2, I will have killer setup a poll to determine the winner.

I only typed the top line of the map with different letters to save time.
It is really a pain to do all of them if they will not be used.

Hmm... hard to decide. The middle one looks clearest and easiest to read, but the original pixel font fits the theme and visual style better.

I know you like your pixel font
because it was made to be small
but
as letters are square it is more difficult to recognise them
as you don't have diagonal legs or rounded angle
so sorry bad news but
century gothic is more readable from far

I have to agree with pamoa...and more legible overall for the cell names

And WM, it might be that you've had the pixel font on this since the start, and you think the other fonts look bad, but your are asking for a graphic stamp, and i don't think the pixel font cut the mustard because it couldn't be read that well especially on the small map.
Simple as that.
And hey, common, you know how this is supposed to work. :)
If you wanna run with the pixel font, then that's your ultimate call, but don't be surprised if there's a lot of reaction about "i can't read the cell names" and "this another crap foundry product".
Do you want that WM?

I think the pixel font looks much better, and as far as readability -- to me, it's perfectly legible. But moreover, the names are organized alphabetically and numerically, so if anyone has a problem reading one or two of the characters, there's plenty of context to let them know what the name of the hex in question is.

I personally like the latter two both better. As stated earlier, the pixel font fits the map a bit better, the century gothic is easier to read. But i never noticed that the pixel was hard to read at all until it was posted next to the other two. I really think the pixel font works fine.

I'm not a big fan of the pixel font, but it fits and works, so I'd keep it.

Cairns sometimes your browser might not be viewing web pages at 100%. This may be the reason that although widowmakers font does not had anti-alias if still may blur if you window is only showing a page 99% of it size. If you push ctl+0 it should put it back to 100% and could possible solve your blur issue for you.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

Gimil, thanks for that possible solution....but i don't think that is the prob.
Below is a screeshot of what i see on my ASUS screen which is set at 1280 x 1024. At this size i can see every other map's text on this site.
I can tell you that i can read every cell ID in the part map above which is the Gothic font i beleive (even the arial is acceptable), whereas the pixel font is murky. :(
Unfortunately the .jpg image makes it even worse.
I hope this gives WM some idea of the issue.

I think what gimil is saying cairns is that "if" the pixel font is blurry on your screen, you have screen issues.

There is no way that the font is blurry at 100% since it is a pixel in width.
Just like the "88" are not blurry at 100%. Here is a shot at 100% and 400%. ONLY full pixels on both
image

Both the 88 and hex IDs are pixel based (no antialiasing). So if you A1, A2, etc is blurry the "88" would be blurry too. And if that is the case, you are not looking at 100%.

And here is the map with the font used in RJ's LARGE Charleston map. The font doe not have numbers but here are the letters. They a re actually smaller than the ones I have now (width).
SMALL MAP with font from Charleston LARGE map.

I am only going to say this once. I am not going to try to argue the issue any further, but it needs to be said.
I think that this whole issue of the eligible font, stems from the fact that the hive has been squashed down to allow for more territs. If the map were to just loose those extra territs, and go back to being, what a true honeycomb looks like, the text would not need to be so small. As has been stated before, This font works fine at a larger size.
Well this is a simple solution, but it means that there will be less territs. The decision is, which is more important ?

Notice how cairns's screenshot is also blurry, while WM's isn't and if I were to take one it wouldn't be either.

Go with the font RJ used.

What font did you use here cairns? Also the font i used of RJ's was his LARGE Charleston map font.

I think I said this earlier (or maybe I am just talking to myself) we will setup a poll and have a vote.

Right now the Gothic will be the NON pixel font.
I plan on trying to "smooth" out the corners of my current font and maybe add some of the visual aspects of RJ's font to soften the hard edges but on anti-alias the font.

Stay tuned.
