Back in the long ago days of February we had a great little competition between the members of the moderation team and the members of the general public. It was a fierce battle, with many great fights, games, and general mayhem. The time has come again for the moderators to test their mettle against the fiery furnace that is the skilled population of our great site. It's time for Whac-A-Mod 2!!!
Last time around the moderators emerged victorious by a fairly healthy margin, can the public turn the tables and redeem their reputation after last time? Only time will tell! Step right up and try your hand against the colored names.
Now, for the details...
The When...
UPDATE!
Optimus Prime wrote:Due to the success of the weekend, I'm going to use my executive powers to extend this competition until 5:00pm Eastern Time (New York Time). This is to give the moderators the ability to make some casual team and 1v1 games to pass out to players who were not available over the weekend.
Keep an eye out for those games and find the passwords from the appropriate moderators. Keep in mind, players who were not able to be in a game will be given priority for these games.

Games will begin promptly at 8:00am Eastern USA Time October 3, 2009 and will no new games will be created past 8:00am Eastern USA Time October 5, 2009. This means there is a 48 hour time period for members to step up and compete against the moderators. If you aren't sure how the time converts to your local time zone, please use this time clock to help determine what time the competition begins locally so you don't miss out on the fun.
The Who...
There are 28 moderators currently signed up to participate, but a few more might wander in from time to time. If you are lucky you might even manage to sneak into a game against the webmaster himself, so keep your eyes peeled just in case!
The Where...
Games will be created by the moderators and will appear in the Join A Game tab of your Games Menu. Once inside of the Join A Game portion of the site, look inside the Speed Games and Tournament Games areas to find games with the label "Whac-A-Mod 2 October 2009" as those are the ones that will count. Each game will have a password attached to the label, so find a game you want to join, use the password, and commence the battles!
The Freemiums...
As freemium members are not allowed to play in speed games (unless you have a free one saved up), and since a majority of these games will be speed games, we will from time to time be making "FREEMIUM ONLY" real-time or casual games so that they may participate as well. These games will be marked with "FREEMIUM ONLY" rather than a password. To join these games as a freemium member, please simply contact the game creator via PM or wall post to get the password to join. Hopefully this will allow some freemium members to participate as well.
The Sportsmanship Rule...
As there are only a limited number of moderators and a rather large number of public members, we are asking that everyone be courteous and play in only one game at a time. If you want to join game after game, that is fine, but please do not join multiple games at once in order to keep spots available to as many people as possible. If you are found to be hogging game slots you may be in danger of not receiving a medal at the end of the competition. All of the moderators will be trying to play as many games as they can manage during the time of competition to give as many people a shot as possible.
The Reward...
Anyone who successfully beats a moderator will receive (once all games are complete) a contest medal to recognize their victory. Likewise, any moderator who wins a game will receive a contest medal to recognize their victories as well. You will only receive ONE medal regardless of how many games you win.
That's everything I do believe. The moderators are excited to see if they can defend their title from last time, and I'm sure the public will be eager to push us from our lofty perch. Get yourselves ready, the games commence in about 22.5 hours from the time of this post.
Feel free to engage is some light-hearted and good-natured trash talk here in this thread leading up to and throughout the competition. Keep it clean though, and keep it civil, this thread will be moderated if anyone gets out of control.
