MasterGuns - Intentionally Throwing a Game [noted]

Postby Shino Tenshi on Sat Sep 05, 2009 6:13 pm

Accused:
MasterGuns

The accused are suspected of:
Other: Intentionally Throwing a game

Game number(s):

Game 5543793

Comments:

After pretty much ensuring my win the next turn, MasterGuns, who had 20 something on USA Spy 2 bombarded away all his troops so that blue would be able to kill him for the win. His intention for this was to lose less points.

Throwing games to 'lose less points' happens far too often on this site. You can bet it turns a number of players away from the site. There really needs to be some sort of disciplinary actions for this type of behaviour.

If he was going to lose anyway, it's not throwing a game. He had an opportunity to decide who would win. Why is it throwing the game if he picked your opponent, but not if he picked you?

can you provide links to the game numbers for this, and possibly give the correct layout for this claim.

Well, technically, throwing a game would include this behaviour in most sports and games. If you behave unfairly in order to modify the outcome, that is pretty off. You wouldn't be able to justify deliberately injuring as many players on the opposing team during a semi-final when you've got no chance of coming back if it meant your opponent would lose in the final.

I think it's much less black and white here, and that's very much an extreme example. It doesn't fully apply here either, and that's why it shouldn't really be considered cheating. It's still worthy of complaint. It's not really in the spirit of the game, and it would make anyone angry.

Still- we really need to see the game report.

Nope- that's pretty clear- he deliberately helped another player gain points.

You must plan for other players to gang up on the strongest player to prevent the game from ending. You say you had game your next turn gives every player the greenlight to attack you with everything they got. I personally fight to the end. You never know when you'll get the unrealisctic dice or when players will miss turns, putting you right back in the game.

Game chat definitely supports this claim. Once the other players felt the game was decided they lobbied to join efforts to decide the outcome to minimize point loss. And while yes this is something you have to plan for cause it is always in the back of players minds when they feel they cant win, it is something that should be addressed as foul play when it is so blatant that it is spoke of as a strategy in Game Chat. At a minimum a Warning should go out to these 2.

I believe this kind of stuff happens to many games out there where some players may do 'things' that could benefit a higher ranked opponent as opposed to a lower rank opponent in order to lose less points. While it does look like MasterGuns 'decided' who wins in this game, for this case, one game is not enough to warrant a disciplinary measure. A warning is not needed here but we can note this for future reference in case he does this again.
