This is an interesting case...my opinion is that Demonfork should be warned not to continue this recent streak. But by looking through his previous games, he enjoys 1v1s quite a bit, and especially Freestyles, so I do not think that anything more than a warning should be issued. Also, keep in mind that most of these players are not newbs (as said before), but low ranks.

Are you saying that the farming rule should apply outside ???s and, if so, why?

Agree that it's an interesting topic, but I haven't seen any warning being handed out outside the ???-context before. Nor have I seen any mods/hunters statements that such use could be made by the farming-is-not-cool rule.

If a private has played 20 games or so...and has almost no idea what risk is...i would consider him a newb...I would say that anyone that has played a few amount of games and lacks comprehending of the basics of risk strategy is a newb.

Well perhaps this isn't farming. Perhaps joining players with 5 games is much different than joining those with 4. Though he did join some of those too. In any case, if its not against the rules, then nothing will happen. If targeting so many new players in a short amount of time is seen to be a gross abuse of the game which of course is against the rules..well..thats a different story, and the obvious reason for the thread. My opinion is obvious, but just my opinion. Its nothing against Demon personally either. I stumbled on what looked like some rule breaking or at least bending, so I posted. If Im wrong, Im sorry for the anguish this seems to have caused him. I might be wrong. but as far as I remember the mods/hunters have rather clearly stated (in connection to previous C&A threads re farming) that "farming" in the sense of the farming-is-not-cool rule only applies to ???s and not to anyone with 5 or more games under his/her belt.

The fact that demonfork is a drama queen set aside, I believe he hasn't performed "farming" under the anti-farming rule. That people may object on other grounds, well, that's a different matter I guess. There're a lot of opinions out there and one may very well brand demonfork a farmer if one wishes, but that seems more like something for the General or Q&A forums.

You may very well be correct. I wasnt sure, so I posted here. And at the time, not really having spent any time researching the rules, I assumed that joining brand new players and farming them was against the non farming rules. If its ok to kill the people with 5 games and not 4, thats all the answer I was looking for. If however, this systematic killing of the newest players, all in a short time, all on complex settings, for the express purpose of taking advantage of new players is what the rule was meant to control...well...thats an answer too.

Either way, I only ever expected the mods to say:"stop doing that", or "keep doing that". Not give him a whipping or anything. Again, I saw the anti farming stuff, and assumed it was meant to control this type of playing.

Yeah but I think King A is starting to get a tighter grip on farming or what is looked at as farming. As long as you join vs then, it is fair game for him. Lack does not seem to being stepping in and saying no to this kind of ruling.

Is this farming? I dont know if it technically is, but its obviously joining all new players to grab some points. These players are all on page one of games, and have only the number of games shown...possibly less when the game was played. If its not illegal, then fine with me. But still, I didnt even realize players were still doing this kind of thing after the new rules.

They join your games thats one thing, but someone this highly ranked targeting the newest players seems to be what the anti-farming rule are about. Is this the way around it? wait till they have 10 or so games and pounce?

I dont know... This is from the rules page. To me, it seems that systematically farming new members is against the rules. You joined 7 games against players with 2 to 30 games. Ill assume you didnt accidentally join them, and that makes it fairly systematic. Also, they were all on your first page all bunched together. I posted because from my understanding of the meaning systematically farming new members...that joining a bunch of them and killing them, was exactly that.

Now, if that phase means something other than systematically farming new members, and really means joining only new recruits, so be it. But to me it reads "new members" and I included members with 2 to 30 games in that group. If new means 4 games, and 5 means an experienced player, so be it, and hence the purpose of my question.

I will add this. I see absolutely nothing wrong with demon setting up games. I didnt even look at them. If a member, even a new one cant figure that the odds of winning against someone like demonfork will result in a loss, then they probably have no chance anyways. I typically assume anyone joining such a game understands the risk, at least to some degree, and is joining for the sheer challenge of it. If I join against him on a freestyle speed game, I sure wont be expecting a win, and certainly not an easy one.

well, since causal freestyle 1v1 games alone are very rare, ones that are set-up by higher ranked players are even more scarce.

If CC want's to make a rule that limits the amount of games that higher ranked players can join against lower ranked players, then I will abide by that rule.

Until then, I still plan on joining casual freestyle 1v1's that I come across.

There is no definition for a "new player". It's a subjective term that could mean almost anything.

The unwritten rules were written to include any obvious behavior which is gross abuse, that is not specifically covered by the rules. The specific rule that you are refering to is in another thread and was written to explicitly protect new recruits, but that does not mean it is ok to farm new players. That is why the rule says new players, and not new recruits. The unwritten rules have evolved with CC over time, to adjust to new situations and new practices. Click on rules...it says nothing about new recruits...only farming new players.

It is you who are missing the point of this, not me. I fully understand that you think its ok to farm players with 6 games, but Im telling you that it may very well be considered gross abuse of the game, as many behaviors not specifically listed have been in the past.

I am well aware of the thread which is 6 months old that originally dealt with farming for the first time, but that does not in any way mean its ok to target new players, which is why its against the rules. Your interpretation is obviously different, but that does not mean its correct. It may be correct, and you may very well be able to attack all the new players you want, once they play that 5th game, but that is not necessarily true.
