New to conquer club

Postby RPringle on Mon May 25, 2009 7:23 pm

Alway love playing Risk and I got into Carcassone over the winter - my style of play is taking risk to sweep a wide area - while holding a easy defenable base - how ever if I end up with out a good base = I become easy prey and get wiped out quickly - still learning some of the games setups here. Would welcome any advise available

Awesome hun. Welcome to the site, I'm fairly new here myself but have a few games under my belt here. Hands down the neatest part about this site is the multiple interactive options of gameplay. So many different maps. Players ranging from 1 vs 1 competition up to 8 player games, team games included, doubles (2 vs 2) tripples (3 vs 3) Quads (4 vs 4) When I joined I had to complete so many games before more options became available to me.

Strategy-wise... can I ask why you target wide areas quickly? I believe you and I are the opposite, I am all about the contraction of armies, the solidifying of an area if I have a majority share, if it's a bonus area, great, if not, it just means I have to be more careful. I believe that if I attack wide and have alot of spread out weak armies, I am easily struck not only by those that consider me a threat, but also just those that want a casual attack, to them I'm also an easy target, I find if I focus my men in a few contracted areas, I am less likely to be a "casual" target and will only be attacked by someone with real good reason to attack that they would pick that small part of the map with my men on it.

My strategy I use most (but not all the time) is somewhere in between. I spread out enough to get spoils and troops, but I try to seal off my base of operations (normally the center) with all my troops and leave the center with 1 troop per territory. see http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=4925566.
Another suggestion (I strongly recomend) is to join the Society of Cooks. It is a training program for users looking for help.
