The Big Question

READ BEFORE VOTING

Now I have heard a buzz going around here, a buzz I have felt for a long time, this thread is for the purpose of addressing and solving the problem of the current "flu" that has sickened the Foundry.
-------------------------------------------------------------Side Note------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you may ask, "Wait sailor, shouldn't we first address the problem of minimal new people entering the Foundry?"
To that I say, solve this problem, solve the latter. Clean up our air, and more people will breathe it.
-----------------------------------------------------------Back To The Point---------------------------------------------------------------
Now the word Foundry seems to evoke a certain feeling in people outside of our community.
AndyDufresne wrote:It's not the "elitism" but rather a general, hm, overwhelming feel that currently is associated with the Foundry. I've been working on a few ways to encourage more people to be active...stay tuned.

But anyways, this is not a topic for this topic!

Good luck Foundry Stamp folks!

They are probably too elitist to listen to a bunch of longest thread threaders...

Now what is this atmosphere I am taking about? This is the smug sense of self importance that our community as a whole seems to have.
The description of the map maker's home:
A place of gathering for the map making elite of Conquer Club.

I do not mean to insult any of you, I just mean to say that the group as a whole is taking the wrong attitude towards going about our goal, making quality maps.

-------------------------------------------------------------Side Note------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now you may think "Aw, sailor doesn't actually care, he is just sick of us flaming him"
While yes, I am bored with your flaming, this is not my motivation. As you see from above there is a real problem

-------------------------------------------------------------Final Message-------------------------------------------------------------------
We have gone in the wrong direction and I implore you, do something, do not stay silent for fear of the , "elitist" comments will only further prove my point, not my point but a point for the betterment of the Foundry at large.
RJBeals wrote:It just ain't what it used to be.

------------------------------------------------WAIT! WHAT ARE YOU SUGGESTING?-----------------------------------------------------
I say we change our system! Change the way we do things around here and the way we treat people around here

I have to say... I agreed, the map foundry isn't what it used to be when i first started, even though that wasn't very long ago, i have seen it shift, and change (not always for the better)

Thread upon thread upon thread isn't the answer.

I'm with tack, yeah people have left, but more are coming in and there are always members who have seen that "elitist" perspective.

RE: Fastpost
Yes, by making 2 threads (so far) on the same thing. "Getting out there and doing something about it" is not exaggerating this feel, trying to help it die down by posting to help more members come and stay here (this is not telling you to advertise the Foundry elsewhere), and making multiple threads on the same subject matter bringing it up to others' attention isn't the way to go about it.

Of the 23 topics currently in the drafts room, 21 of them are by people that have never finished a map before.

I don't think we need to worry about not having enough new participation.

yes, but some of those people aren't necessarily new, they have been in the foundry for a while, but have never finished a map

Firstly- Yes I agree with LED and secondly these topics are in the drafting room because they are new but besides that these are not actives, of the 23, how many actively post?
Also this is off topic

Ok, I missed Ruben Cassar. forgot to include him.

And count out bryguy, maybe one or two others.

That still leaves a large number of new mapmakers.

My point is: Be happy with what we have, stop bitchin', and open up photoshop!! ;)

The whole site is seeing a decline in activity, not just the foundry.

Yeah, well, maybe but you keep talking and hyping all this up, but are you ever going to post how "we" should "change" anything? and what happened to that huge change happening in the Foundry tonight Andy was in on and how us FA's were going to disappear?

First, it wasn't spam. You didn't read "are you ever going to post how 'we' should 'change' anything?"

Well I say change the system but that is just me. I am here to say change is needed, I think the community as a whole needs to chose how.

I am new at the foundry posting wise but i have read hours and hours of map threads
and of course there is a choice amount of older mapmakers that i would not say elitist
they are very helpful put thought into there post to help or give the criticisms needed

this kind of stuff makes people not feel welcome
the.killing.44 wrote:
sailorseal wrote:Can you correct your grammer?

What is "the __"?

this doesnt make sense.

anyway, no, it's not possible. You can only reinforce to those positions you border (via the <border> tag in the XML), and not those you can only bombard (via the <bombard> tag). But go ahead and suggest it here, which is what I was about to do the other night ;)

.44

as i ask a simple question looking for a helpful answer i receive this comment from sailorseal
when .44 answer was all i needed as well as other peoples thought would have been great because it is helpful
which was appreciated

so my point is instead posting to post post when you see its a necessity or there is thought put behind it cause this angers people that put so much thought and time in there maps and ideas that derailing it right off the bat with sarcastic reasons (note map ideas mainly and a lot lately) this makes new members to the foundry not feel welcome and/or makes them leave if not derailing others ideas in the long run

just my thoughts

sailor if you go into suggs and bugs, and start a new thread that says "Hey, i think CC could be better if we changed something!" your thread will be locked.

Maybe you should run for president, "I want to tell the American people, that something in the government could be changed...specifically the economy (wow im smart!)...so that people will have more money!! Vote 4 me!"

It's the same concept in the Foundry.

Be specific. If you want change, you need to actually suggest a change. I personally disagree, but that's besides the point.

before I start I want to agree with kaplowitz, saying I can not talk about anything before I joined the site
i also want to say that 10 post have been made while i was typing this, so some stuff may not make sense anymore

now to the point, i think everything that has needed to be said, has basically been said.
wcaclimbing wrote:Of the 23 topics currently in the drafts room, 21(maybe not exactly 21) of them are by people that have never finished a map before.

I have seen threads go more then 5-6 weeks without any posts, so this is an improvement
16 topics have had a post within the last week.
11 of those 16 have had a comment posted within the past day.
this shows how much people are spending in the drafting room, which is just part of the foundry

and lastly

Kaplowitz wrote:I cant talk about before I joined, but since then ive definitely seen much improvement.

To me at least, the comments show that the foundry is growing, maybe slowly, but still growing. It also shows that people are working hard to improve maps.
