conquer crater (ARTIST NEEDED)

this is a draft for a map, conquer crater. You win by controlling the center space for 1 turn. Currently we await the sticky and prominant draft stamp.
i have taken the role of programmer, and until we get a new artist, I will have to do that as well ;)

I think it is a interesting idea but could you tell us a little more, what is the theme?
A map of a asteroid? Crater caused by a meteor?

It could be like, a fictional crater, like

CONQUER CRATER

or sumthin like that.

I already have most of the xml done, i just need somebody to do the art.

here are the official rules so far:

there will be one center territory, and a ring of 36 territories. the ring will be divided into four equal quadrants. Each quadrant will have nine territories. the quadrants will be named top left quadrant, top right quadrant, bottom left quadrant, and bottom right quadrant.

the territs will be named acording to their quadrant, and they will have a number, according to their position on the quadrant. the territory on the highest point on the quadrant will be 1.

so, for example, the second highest territory on the top left quadrant, would be notated as
TL2.

Each quadrant will earn you 4 if you own all of the territories in it. the center will earn you one. the center will also have +1 deployed every turn.

all territories can attack the center, while the center can not attack anybody.

A player will win if they can hold the center for three . (can someone tell me if this can be done with xml?) if not, 1 turn should be reasonable, maybe you would have to control a certain number of territs from each quadrants.

again, any volunteers for artwork would be greatly appreciated. :)

Don't bother with the XML,maps go through a long process before that

I see what you are saying. I just thought that If i told people that a major part of the map was done, somebody would appear and give me a graphic to finish it on,

once we have the draft done, which will be when somebody submits a "slopy copy" we should be able to get the draft stamp.
gameplay stamp should be easy, since i already have all of the rules laid down, and nobody seems to contradict them so far.

me and the person who submited the rough draft of the map will then get together on a photo editing software and tidy it up, and we will take the comments of future posters.

once we have the graphics stamp, we get the final forge stamp

and at that point, I will probably have all of the information i need to finish the xml.

this is my first map, im sooooo excited that everybody seems to be interested in this idea so far :D

what i am getting out of these, is that you say that there are many steps in the process that can drastically change what the xml will look like. you are saying that you are worried that i might waste a lot of time making an xml, and then something might change, and then i would have to start over?

could you please elaborate a little bit plz, im new to this map making process. :?

I am saying all of they above and more:
The map is first, don't even bother with the XML until much later, we need to know what this looks like, just a basic shape

The map-making process takes months. You will recieve hundreds of comments, and obtaining stamps will be hard. So you have the right process, but add months onto that.

But don't despair! You have a lot of determination and I bet you can make it through :)

thanks for the encouragement guys! I understand now that making a map is not a 1 step process.

I am confident however, that I will be able to make this map happen

So just make up a simple (Ugly) map that will just outline it, then someone can take it and make it wonderful :D

actually, i have found an artistic friend, who is also part of cc, fredstick

he has a version of photoshop, and i offered to have him make a rough draft :D

he will hopefully make a nice map to start, and he will go all the way.
even if he doesnt make a piece of modern art, im sure with a little fine tuning, it will be great. could someone who has experience please tell me exactly what will hapen once we have all of the rough draft stuff together. i just want to know in detail, thansk!!!

Well first if your draft meets

i just threw this together. It is horrible, but it should give people an idea about what this map is all about. dont forget that all territories can attack the center, but the center cannot attack anyone.

Symmetrical maps usually don't do well because people find them repetitive and boring. Think of what the strategy would be for this map:

- Find the quadrant you have the most guys in
- Form a string of territories
- Expand and take your quadrant
- When you have enough troops, go for the center

I could teach a monkey to do that! Maps like this rely a lot on luck- I am getting destroyed in a Chinese Checkers game right now because of shitty dice and a bad drop. That's not my idea of fun! Sorry. :(

hmmm, you are right, i too find it boreing to play on such a map.

maybe there could be two layers surrounding the crystal. each layer would have different clusters of territories that connected to each other. the inner ring could directly attack the center, while the outer ring could bombard it.

maybe we should make it so that there are other territories on the clusters that must also be controlled to win.

This kind of reminds me of Oasis and 8 Thoughts.

I like the Conquorium and some of the touches you've put into it, though. If done well, the graphics could be cool with like land rovers and a shot of the stars above or something...

What if the map was more like a skidmark? everyone battling toward the front.

I think you also need more than 1 autodeploy to get people to want the Crystal. I think Crystal should be able to bombard all outer ring territories with Conquorium.

however, it is on earth, or at least, it probably will be. but if you can do something, go for it.

ok, ive tried to incorperate as much as the suggestions that i could into this second layout plan.

ive added closed off territs that can bombard anywhere, as well as a bonus for the inner ring.

most rules from the last layout still apply
