Retire plans

Postby Qwert on Tue Mar 03, 2009 3:46 pm

Well these is definitly mine plan,to retire after Peloponnesian war is quenched in some normal period(i hope so).
Present situation is not normal, again ignoring stage, and i even not posting any complaining and peacefuly waiting 12 days, and dont get any answer for FF stage.
Some people will be sad,but i belive that some people will say"thanks god, these complainer will be out here, finaly", but these is normal,i can not expect that all people will have good opinion abouth mine work.
Puzzle is abandoned, and if i need to waith another 12 days without any answers, then i will not waste time on Peloponesian and i will leave these to.

Qwert, it'll be sad to see you go because your maps are much beloved. I urge you to reconsider everything---The C.A.'s aren't out to get you, no one is out to put you down or make your feel inferior or ignored. Everyone is simply doing their work, volunteer work, mind you.

I hope you stick around Qwert, after some additional thought.

Your maps are great! Please don't lose hope. I'm sure your new work will progress, in time. You've got a great score already! Everybody here (I assume) are doing voluntary work, so real life sometimes intervenes. Also, I guess waiting somewhat is part of "quality assurance", where others have a chance to review your work and have opinions. It's all for the better.

I'm playing on several of your maps right now and having a blast! Was looking forward to the Peleponnesian Wars, in particular. If nothing else, I'd be sad if you felt you'd had enough.

I'm not going to judge CA's work.
I think that all CA's do a great work, if you want my opinion.
But probably, something doesn't work correctly.
My opinion is that map makers are the best members of all CC site.
I try to explain you better:
I organized and still organizing some tournaments and i think that organizing the most difficult tournament is simple in front of a normal foundry process.
I'm creating my first map and i'm going for gameplay stamp (i hope 8-[ ) and since november i obtained only a stamp.
I learn that time in foundry go so slowly! A normal day equals to an hour in foundry. 12 days aren't so many ;)
But the real problem is that gameplay couldn't be under the community opinion on whole.
After some time passed away your initial map is disappear.
If only 10 members give you a different opinion it's impossible to have a OWN map.
I think that community has to be interested to your map (maps couldn't be useless) but suggestions has to be suggestions, not order.
Personally i rejected all suggestion i don't like because my map is my map, i prefer not to see it online than destroy my original idea.
I know that foundry process could be frustrating in some moments :? , but what happened to you , happens to all map makers everyday.

Edbeard, as usual said good words about:

edbeard wrote:I'm still of the opinion that we're not here to decide how a map should play... ...I'm not gonna tell qwert what he has to do. it's his map. his name goes on it not the jury members' or the community's.

I strongly suggest you to think about your decision, you're one of the greatest map maker i have ever seen, i love your maps.
And think about what CA's do all days, they preserve the quality of maps with the foundry process,
Anyways foundry process, maybe, could be a little easier ](*,)

Don't give up!

Qwert, it might be a good time to cut the chord. In all honesty, your best maps are your first ones. you certainly have the skills to do great things in the graphics world, and you should do so. All your maps would be an excellent addition to any portfolio in terms of graphic skills, but I have seen a regression in terms of gameplay, concept and accessibility.

You should stick around the foundry though, if only to impart your wisdom unto others. Good luck!

Qwert, there is no need for you to retire because you don't get feedback or you loose patience with foundry not giving you feedback or the frustration you feel by non-advancement. Things have slowed down very much in the Foundry, possibly because of the now large number of maps in live play, and because (as i am constantly reminded) your time and everyone else's time here is in volunteer capacity. That means there are no time constraints, only the ones we choose to place on ourselves.
Do re-consider and stay on. Get your creative juices flowing again and produce some more spectacular maps with different gameplay. :)

Qwert, even if you don't continue to make maps, I hope you continue to be a feedback and suggestion force in the Foundry.

What is point to give feedbacks, when almost all people react"thanks for feedbacks, but i will not do that",well almost 99% of mine feedbacks is rejected(and im usualy give Informacions feedback for Historical or Some Geographical, relevant things). When someon get feedback from me that some things need to change, because its not correct, then he refuse, and nothing hepend. Do you realy think that i have time to write feedback, when people costanly rejected. Ofcourse i dont want to arguing abouth that, after all if people want to have map with incorrect details, then who im i to stop that.

I really think you are over-reacting, you brought up some great points about the german symbols in my Poland Map thread and i have been working on providing a more accurate symbol. So saying that everyone ignores your suggestions is ridiculous. I wish you well if you do decide to retire ;) but i hope you stay 8-[

I want only to say you to think during the beta stage about you are going to do....but i respect your choice.
Probably i suggest you to post in other threads too. All foundry needs your knowledge ;)

thread locked.

I've been questioned as to why I locked this thread, and I happy to share my logic here. This thread was not intended by the original poster to start a discussion about Foundry policies, the mapmaking process, or any other topic relevant to the Foundry. This thread was intended to make a personal statement, and that statement has been made... and the the thread was bumped by the poster to reiterate that statement.

I will quote the basic steps to posting in CC's Community Guidelines:
    1. Ask yourself if your post is actually contributing to the topic, or is it off topic or just plain spam? If it's not contributing, find somewhere else to post.
    2. Ask yourself if you are flaming, baiting, feeding a troll or taking the bait. If you are, then don't.
    3. Re-ask the above two questions

At this point this thread is no longer contributing anything to the Foundry, and thus no longer belongs here. If qwert - or anybody else - would like to engage the Foundry in a discussion about appropriate posting and appropriate responses to posting, I would welcome this as a discussion that needs to be had around here. But that's not what this thread is really about.

Qwert is a talented mapmaker who has much to offer the Foundry, and if anybody would like to send him a PM trying to convince him to return to Foundry work I would encourage them to do so.
