my math students are playing from same IP address [noted]

Postby FarangDemon on Sun Nov 23, 2008 9:54 pm

Not sure this is the right place... I wanted to explain why these players are using same IP address and some having similar names.

In our probability lesson, I introduced students to conquerclub. I projected Asia onto the whiteboard and we wrote in and erased armies as players made attacks. Then we calculated probabilities by enumerating possibilities. If anyone wants my lesson, I can email it to you.

Anyway, a number of these students are currently playing conquerclub with their own individual accounts but using the same IP address. Some of the names are similar, too (they are not very creative).

Game 3718786 is being played by 8 of my students.

I don't know how often they play yet, but perhaps you can see that they play from different IPs in the evening. I just want any multi hunters to take this into account because I know that on first glance it looks like a multi and I'd hate to see them get accused of being multis for not doing anything wrong.

A++ for being creative. I have heard all the excuses by now but this one was unique.

I have taken the precaution of not playing with any of my students yet so you cannot blame your losses on this.

Fact: You do not play games with your (so-called) students.
Probability: If your IP matches any of your (so-called) students, you are still a multi.
Result 1: Get banned for not reading the rules.
Result 2 : Mods let you go cause it is just a learning lesson in school.
Result 3 : You did not allow your (so-called) students to use your account, and you play happily ever after and become the Conqueror

Note to self:If result 2 happens , I am becoming a professor

This appears completely legit to me after some cursory research.

The OP hasn't played with or against any of the accounts that are his students.

The OP is paid and has nothing to gain from those accounts unless he plays with or against them.

External IP does not a multi make. People who work in the same building often have the same IP during the day, the OP goes so far as to reference this.

The OP asks for consideration for his students, not himself. He makes no effort whatsoever to defend himself. That would be strange behavior for a real multi.

Hate to break it to you, but this sorta project has been done before and is OK with CC.

1. IP addresses do not amount to much. Many people play from the same IP, work together, live together, etc.
2. Just becasue you play from the same IP does not make you a multi.
3. Why would he let his students onto his account? They look to be in middle school or high school. No thanks for me. I would not let them on my account.

Also if you make multi's then you will be busted. I think the professor did right by letting CC know now rather than dealing with a massive issue now. This place is great for a study room.

The chat in that game alone shows its not all one person, unless he's in a rubber room somewhere playing on a safety computer

Since this is a probability class, I am going to assume they might be Juniors or Seniors in High School?

Last time I checked, I'd get a rather lengthly detention sentence for using that language for a school project.

(I do agree that the chat proves their multi innocence, though!)

There appears to be some truth in what FarangDemon claims as they appear to access the site from a public domain in their country. Still, if ever they get reported in the future, the concerned accounts are still open for an investigation.
