why are you playing a speed game while your 9 year old is around? Why don't you get a board game out and actually play with the kid rather than letting him/her amuse themselves with the matches you left on the coffee table?

if you don't think that what is on your computer screen is appropriate for your 9 yr old to see tun it off. [-X it's not up to this site to do your parenting for you.

Thank you for your input, as i said he was watching me i did not leave a match on the coffee table, as far as playing a board game boring to him and myself, we just came back from a long canoe trip , fishing is our thing ...not board games in the summer...and what is wrong with playing a speed game while he is watching , We like the game Risk, my son is a worthy player...He is quick to learn, vary smart....And i never ask CC to do parenting for me...So dont even try to put this on my lap, i have never used that sort of language on the computer. we all have had bad dice, is that the way you deal with it ? even my son at 9 yrs old ,knows that is poor sportsmanship and a sore loser...

Does your son play video games? watch tv/movies? read books? my point here is that whatever your child is doing/watching you as a parent are probably parenting/controlling what he sees and plays. The internet should not be any different. If there is an R rated movie on the television do you let him watch it or do you change the channel? If there is something on the internet that you feel is inappropriate for your child then you should "change the channel".
There is a large degree of anonymity and therefore indifference on the internet. People have a tendency to say/do things on the internet that they wouldn't say/do in real life. I don't generally swear in the game chat but I do understand that sometimes other people get frustrated and say things that they may not actually say in real life. If your child is watching you play a game you could be proactive and write in the game chat at the beginning of the game that your child is watching. That may curb some people's language but not everyone will be respectful of that. If they are not being respectful then it is up to you to leave the game or simply stop scrolling down to the game chat window.
Unless you keep your kid in a bubble he has probably already heard/seen this type of language and much worse on the playground, at friends houses, on the street, etc. Although he has probably heard/seen this kind of language the biggest effect on him will be how he sees you reacting to that kind of language because you are his biggest role model right now. Remember that your child is constantly learning how to deal with life by watching how you deal with life.

As what was said before, if you find yourself in a game with someone who offends you, simply add the member in question to your foes list and his/her comments will disappear from the game chat, which you have already done.
