OK, sorry. How long was that there, hehe. No, I did read that thread, just didn't notice that was on the to-do list. Either way, now that here is a poll and it is still being talked about (and not just in this thread), maybe it will get bumped up the list a little, yea.

There is a list of all online members at the bottom of the Club Forums main page. I use it to search (ctrl+F) for a game opponent to see if they are online, and thus am looking forward to this update (which I was going to suggest myself) that will make things much easier for me.

And as I have suggested with almost all changes, I think this should be a option that can be turned on or off when the game is being created... particularly b/c of the "Freestyle Waiting Game" situation.

Online?

Postby Unit_2 on Wed Oct 24, 2007 7:11 pm

i've been thinking about this since i've been planign CC, i think that you need to add a little circle in the profile of members and it would be green when the yare online and red when they are offline, its a small thing but i think that you should add it so you can tell if they are online so if your playing a rt and they just all the sudan stop taking there turn then you don't know what happened, if there is a online/offline circle you can see if there taking there turn in a differnt game or if they loged off.

i really think you should try to add this in, liek i said its not that big.

Postby Gerard Veltman on Wed Oct 24, 2007 8:17 pm

Isn t there a quicker way to check if some is on line or not... The way to do it now is kinda long... by forum scroll down.... look for a name of player u search...

Isnt it possible to click on a player that is on the game list at the present game to check if he or she is really on line or not.....?

Big problem with on/off notification in games is that some people may go offline quickly, then come right back on. Seems better to just suggest people let each other know if they have to leave.

As for knowing if a friend in online, that would be decent, but only if all parties agreed.

Yep. There is also a topic of Player Online/Offline on Gameboard also (which is on the To-Do list).

If you want to know if someone is online, you can look at the list on the main forum page...that is...if they aren't 'hidden.'

ONLINE STATUS

Postby Bolbs on Thu Dec 13, 2007 7:13 am

Apologies if I am missing something obvious, but the only way I know when friends are online is by repeatedly PMing them.

I find it very difficult to set up a public doubles or triples match with friends because of this. You are relying on the other person being online at the time you send the PM and also responding to it by which time you may no longer be online yourself, and so the cycle begins again.

A simple online status would make things far easier. You could even have an option to hide your online status if you so wish.

on to do list and what you can do now is go to forum and at the bottom of the page (without entering any forums) there is a list of all the players online, just use ctrl+f and type in the name

The online indicator is a feature with phpBB3, which will hopefully be coming sometime in the not too terribly distant future.

online indicators

Postby swami on Wed May 21, 2008 4:16 pm

A nice addition would be a small graphic by the user name to indicate if they are on line. This could be on the My Games page, the gamefider results page and on the game page. Like a star or something, perhaps make the name bold. I find myself looking at a profile to see if the player is on line quite often, usually when someone is about to time out and I want to see if the next player is around to take a turn.

Hiding your online status isn't really hiding your online status, since you can read it on the forum page. Maybe hide that too?

Show "Who's Online" in active game list.

Postby Brian_c_m on Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:02 am

Concise description:
  • When viewing your active games. It'll be good to see who's online so that you have a better idea of when it might be your game. I.E. If the person you are currently waiting for is online but hasn't started his turn yet. Then you can wait for him to begin playing. -better to see it there than in the profile.

Specifics:
  • Add an "Online" image next to the player name / rank to show that they are online or not.

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Show's wheather games are worth waiting for if the opponents are online or not and could possibly keep members online for longer. Also might promote RT play in casual games if players know that all opponents are currently logged in

What if I am on the forums but don't feel like playing my games?

That's the reason we have 24 hours.

I think that might end up being a bad idea.
One issue I see is that it would greatly increase the number of "hurry up and play your turns!" PMs that people recieve, because they would see someone online and be impatient waiting for their turns.
