erm, i say let them, i mean honestly canada needs a place that it can at some point just go in and take over considering the saying is that a person with a gun can go into canada and take over because of their almost non-existant army (compared to the rest of the world) and i think quebec will not even have a army... hmm... lol man quebec is kinda stupid lol there is no point in being a "country within a country" and shareing everything... and i live in Maine... so i live pretty damn close...

Jolly Roger wrote:As I understand it, Canada has never broken its ties with the British monarchy. The Governor General of Canada is appointed by the duly elected Prime Minister to be the Queen's representative in Canada. The GG gives royal assent to all bills that make their way through Parliament and the Senate. The GG is also Commander in Chief of the military. Back in the 80s, Queen Elizabeth and then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau signed the Canadian Constitution. Prior to this, Canada existed due to an act of the British parliament - the British North America Act. The constitution has never been ratified by Quebec because it does not contain special provisions which would allow the Quebec provincial government to preserve its French heritage and culture (among other things). There have been subsequent attempts to bring Quebec into the fold, most notably the proposed Meech Lake Accord which would have given Quebec a distinct society status. However, the other provinces did not agree to adopting the Meech Lake Accord (and other proposed accords/amendments).
Although I'd like to retain Quebec, I don't think this issue will ever be resolved until the separatists have their way. Support for an independent Quebec is too strong - I don't believe it is just going to go away. If Quebec is going to leave, they should just hurry up and get it over with. In the end, it might be best for everyone. Frigging around with "distinct society" clauses and nations within nations is just stupid in my opinion.

It is independent of any governmental ties to Britain, ie: Britain does not rule over it. The Queen is, in Canada, recognized as the Queen of Canada, not the Queen of England, as is the same with Barbados, St-Kitts and Nevis, Australia, New Zealand, Belize, etc.

first things first you guys have the whole thing wrong the whole quebec a nation inside canada is just Harper (our prime minister)building up support for himself this thing will have no effect on anything.Hydro might have plants in northern quebec but they own that land and the natives unfortunately don't have that much a say over government. As for our army it might be small but I believe it has the most peacekeepers around the world an impressive stat seeing as it is one of the smallest. We have more people looking for bin laden than the states who seemed to have forgotten about him.Last and certanily not least don't knock poutine it's great!!!

NOOOOOOOO french Canada...i despise french...ya the natives do have a say in Quebec's seperation though...they can't stop Quebec from seperating, just the Hydro stations are on Native land, so last time they tried to do that, the Natives threatened Quebec to not allow them to use the stations on thier land..so ya...but ya who knows...stupid governments...

if Quebec becomes their own country, the US will have Bush attack Quebec instead of Iraq. if there's one thing most Americans hate, it's the French

I'm pretty sure the natives did not want to give up any of their land over the years and all government US and canada have been doing is taking it so I do not believe they have a say although they should.

Blue reaper I bet you consider yourself a true canadian....well your not canada is a country of diversity and if you can't except that your as ignorant as the people in quebec that want to seperate...It would be nice if people could stop grouping the seperatists with the people who love this country and want it to stay together....coming from a quebecer,Brittish Colombian and an Albertan.

If Quebec becomes it's own country will we be allowed to attack it? If so, yes.

Wo wo wo...first off, i got nothing wrong with the french, Personally it would great if Quebec wasn't here so that I wouldn't have to learn french but oh well. Im just complaining of Quebec wanting to be its own nation inside our nation and using what Canada has built and worked for.

That's over now. You French didn't even invent those, it was the Belgians. And English people HATE the french, even more than us Americans do. I don't mind Quebec, it's them that I'm learning French for, but France... I like Normandy for obvious reasons (ie. D-Day, D-Day, D-Day... etc)... Paris and the South are BLEH! Brittany is OK.

@happy I'm not sure about how much the english hate the french I am speaking about quebec and canada.

If I remember right, WWI was the 1st war that the French and the British ever took the same side on. Before that, if either was involved with a war they were most likely facing each other.
