This is technically abusing game mechanics is it not?

There is your first problem, you were trying to miss turns on purpose to gain armies, which of course, doesn't help because you can't use them on that turn.

Before I could see if the strategy would work, it appears from wicked's comments in the game that she used her admin privileges to give her teammates an "extra turn" in order to wipe me out. This is clear misuse of admin authority is it not.

Ah, but first off, wicked isn't actually an admin... second off, she has no power to give "extra turns" to anyone.

In addition, during the game it became manifestly obvious to everyone on our team that the timing of the coordinated actions of her "team" were too coincidental for it to possibly be just one person. Being an admin, wicked knows her way around the system. Perhaps, the "teammates" are siblings, room mates, sorority sisters, or maybe wicked can mask ISP addresses or has more than one computer in her house. The cartoons of the team all appear to have been done by the same person too. Coincidence?

Paranoid much? Honestly, you must not play a bunch of freestyle. Teams use coordinated times to take turns all the time. It isn't cheating, it is playing well. Everyone on that team is on this site for a decent portion of the day. It isn't hard for them to find each other and say "Hey, let's go coordinate that next round real quick."

Finally, it is hard for me to believe the Conquer Club management could condone the lack of professionalism exhibited by their representative, or condone the way she treats Conquer Club's paying customers. I have been a customer service representative at a credit card company before. If I had treated customers who irritated me in the dismissive, cavalier, sarcastic tone she used with us (laughing off or ignoring our complaints, accusing us of bad sportsmanship, telling us our complaints would go nowhere because she was an admin, telling us that she had admin friends who would exonerate her even if she were guilty, etc.) I would have been sacked with only myself to blame.

I read through the game chat and I think you are blowing the "dismissive, cavalier, sarcasm" comments a little out of proportion. All of us on Team CC are players first, then community members, then members of the staff. I'm allowed, as is wicked, to talk as much trash as we want in a game chat. It has absolutely nothing to do with her work here. Now, if she was dismissive and cavalier in a situation where she was acting as a mod, then perhaps, maybe, you would have something to go on there.

That was some of the most hilarious game chat I've read in a long time...

I especially liked the parts where he accused you guys of having no lives. I can't believe no one on the internets has thought to do that before.

Oh, wait, here's my favorite part:

2008-07-14 22:12:03 - General Quigley: And none of you would have much of a prayer in games where you played individually. It's where I play the great majority of my games. So believe me, I know you all couldn't cut it.

From a cadet, no less.... in the parlance of the medium that we're using to play this game, I give this game chat five ROFLcopters.

Well, it sounds like Wicked and her gang probably did not cheat, at least not as the term is defined by current Conquer Club policy. As I said from the beginning I do not have such skill that I would be able to recognize it if a member does cheat.

Still, I do feel that to gather every advantage possible and then go looking for weaker (less well coordinated) players who are just on for a few minutes per day playing purely for fun, and then beat up on them mercilessly, seems harmful to the creation of a fun environment to play Conquer Club games in. At the very least, it's counterproductive to good business. She, and her gang of bullies, did not have to join the game we set up, and clearly did so purely because they knew they had no real losing chances. Did they do this just to garner easy ratings points? Anyway, where is the sport in that? How can fellow players here at Conquer Club condone and even respect such behavior? Hunters who hunt and shoot their prey from helicopters get no respect from fellow hunters, at least not real hunters. Laws have been passed against using dynamite as a means of fishing, for another example. Only here at Conquer Club do these basic principles of sportsmanship appear to be reversed.

I also still deeply resent the unprofessional manner in which she dealt with me personally. Apparently I am not alone in finding her manner to be unprofessional either. That she continues to receive sanction and enjoy the trust of Conquer Club management says a lot (to me at least) about Conquer Club as a business. I am reconsidering my afiliation as a result.

These are the main points I wanted to make. I have not seen them seriously addressed.

Here, I'll address them seriously for you. I'll be candid and frank, how does that sound?

General Quigley wrote:Still, I do feel that to gather every advantage possible and then go looking for weaker (less well coordinated) players who are just on for a few minutes per day playing purely for fun, and then beat up on them mercilessly, seems harmful to the creation of a fun environment to play Conquer Club games in.

To be honest, it is not up to you, me, or anyone else to decide whether or not a team of friends, family, or comrades here on CC should or should not join games together and coordinate their attacks. It isn't cheating, and you weren't being picked on. My guess is that the group of them decided "Hey, let's go play a game, oh look, this game has settings we like, let's play these guys." That's it, plain as the sun beating down on my head at the moment. By creating a public game and waiting for players to join you accepted the fact that anyone could join your game. Unlucky for you that a very good team happened to be the ones that picked your game.

At the very least, it's counterproductive to good business.

How exactly? Are you saying because there are well coordinated teams on this site that it is driving away customers? I doubt that, actually I find it to be completely false. That's like saying that people getting beat is driving them away from the site. Which is hogwash to say the least.

She, and her gang of bullies, did not have to join the game we set up, and clearly did so purely because they knew they had no real losing chances. Did they do this just to garner easy ratings points?

No they didn't, but they also didn't have to join the game listed right below yours either now did they? You truly have no way of knowing if they did it to "harvest easy points", you just think they did because you lost.

Contrary to what you might believe, there are players here who enjoy team games more than anything else. It is what keeps them here and playing. Who are you to say that it is terrible behavior? Some people enjoy doing battle with excellent coordination, but that doesn't mean it is underhanded or wrong. They weren't sniping from a helicopter so to speak, they were just better than you for that game, simple as that.

Only here at Conquer Club do these basic principles of sportsmanship appear to be reversed.

Nope, not really.

I am reconsidering my afiliation as a result.

Let us know when you find a site as good as this one.

You should play some games with JR.

But seriously, you statements and overdramatic similes make you to be a bit of a whiner. This is simply a game with all the relevance to life that that may entail (which is to say nothing). To quote classic american cinema "Lighten up Francis"

At no time during the game or this "accusation" did I ever have my mod hat on and at no time did I "deal with you personally". You are not giving me the right to be a player here too. I know it says "retired" on your profile, but think about a normal employee anywhere... in general, are they held accountable at their 8-5 job for their behavior when they're cutting loose at a bar on the weekend? I've worked here for over 2 years, and 95% of the time I'm on here, I'm always modding as I'm relentlessly hounded with questions and issues. Well recently I started to sway that percentage so this place was more fun and less work.

I RARELY played team games before a few weeks ago, but wanted to find someone I could play with that would teach me the ropes. I found that in GoVegan, a number of us have. I told him I'd only play if he told me what to do (heh gotta love a take charge man who actually knows what he's talking about!), so he did and I learned a lot. I still don't have the insight to look at a fresh map and come up with a good initial plan; I'm still learning that. But he is the master of coordination, which is evident if you look through any of his team games. He's the mastermind and he runs an efficient ship. BTW, our ranks were not that much higher than 2 members on your team. Clapper's rank just recently skyrocketed; hers used to be lower than mine. We got 10 points for winning, which is pretty low. If we had lost, we would've lost (and you gained) about 40 points. So the system does recognize and account for rank in some regard.

You always have the option to play private games, or even join in clans to play with a certain group. There's even a clan here for low ranks to help them improve. But when you start or join an open public game, it's fair game for anyone to join. 90% of the people here would never join a team game with someone they didn't know or hadn't played with before. Find a team to work with (check callouts, there's always people looking) and learn/practice coordination yourself. There are plenty of people out there that would love to pair with a low rank in a team game because they get more points; and you get an education.

Keep in mind, it's just a game. Don't whine because someone's been here longer and knows it better. ;)

This individual, Wicked, is by far the most immature and petty individual I have ever come across on this website. The fact that she abuses her miniscule authority and disrespects paying members like this on a regular basis, and is not subjected to any real scrutiny by the administration, must surely make the site look like a very poor experience for those who may be considering joining.

This thread and others, while they will obviously not break through the petty favoritism that this so-called "moderator" receives, will serve to show everyone and anyone who may be considering becoming a paying member what exactly it is that they are considering being exposed to.

The fact that such a petty, disrespectful, immature, and hateful individual is in the position of "moderator" at all is very telling of the deeply ingrained problem that the site's administration has.

I just want her to leave me alone, so that I can play risk. Is that so much to ask? Am I really paying to be harassed and stalked by a so-called "moderator?" That's not what I signed up for!

Her pattern of constant harassment of me by PM and in the game chat seems very similar to the multiple complaints in this thread.

Thank you, Wicked, for showing without a doubt what a crock this site's administration is.

I hope that any and all who see this will reconsider being duped into paying for a membership here.

Who wants to pay for unbridled abuse? Her rudeness and bad attitude displayed in her posts in this thread should serve as a warning to anyone considering this site as a friendly, relaxed place to have fun.

It is NOT. With a sociopath installed here as a "moderator," it is more a source of stress than anything else.

To Klobber -- I feel for you, dude. It's no fun being a victim of a site admin who is entrusted by the site who then abuses her authority, is it?

To Wicked -- So, apparently how you play the game doesn't matter, only winning, hey? It's a philosophy some subscribe to, and which apparently GoVegan does. I don't respect it and am glad I live in a country (unlike say Nazi Germany or Taliban controlled territory) where the dominant philosphy is that the ends don't always justify the means. The "I was wearing my player hat, not my moderator hat" argument is a poor one. I retired from the military. We were held accountable for our actions, all of them, whether on- or off-duty. Drink and drive off duty? You get hammered by civilians and the military justice system, both. get an assault charge in a bar, swindle civilians out of money, or even more than a few speeding tickets, same deal. Civilians only get the hammer once. You don't give the military a bad name and you're held accountable for your conduct 24/7/365. People in positions of any kind of authority (policemen, teachers, sports figure role models, even game site admins, whatever) don't get to hide behind that silly, naive, different roles argument. You give Conquer Club itself a bad name by your behavior when you fail to uphold a standard of fairness because you represent Conquer Club administration. I suggest you grow up and face the fact you have assumed a responsibility, however miniscule in overall significance it may be.

To the others -- So, basically most of you are saying Wicked and her unsportsmanlike behavior is okay bececause it's okay. It's what happens at this site. That's sort of like the someone in the Confederate States of America saying slavery is okay because that's what we do and have always done here. It's the law of the land. Well, I disagree with that thinking. Slavery is simply wrong on the face of it. Unsportsmanlike behavior (using secret advantages your opponent clearly has no intention of using or awareness that you are using or would use until too late, and seeking out such opponents for ambushing this way) is wrong too. Conquer Club would be a better place if it didn't sanction and reward (by a still too high ratings points conferral) such unsportsmanlike behavior, though I fully realize I can't change it. My choice is whether or not to accept it, or to vote with my feet as so many others have done before me.
