Sorry if it's been mentioned.
No worries. i swaped the colours around and the map looses it's appeal. so i am inclinced not to change this at present, unless someone else mentions it.
I agree with The Viking - it's rather hard to tell. The minimap helps, but it's not perfect. What if you switched the colors of the 3rd and 4th cataracts?
Sorry, Zeak. That was part of the already tried bit....the map looks horrible like it's lost it's soul.
(You know....i'm bloody ancient! And even I can tell the difference between red and purple. So what's going on with you guys and your eyes/monitors).
Anyways, I have adjusted some of the tert colours to a linear gradient so i hope this makes a difference.

Compared to the one-liners on every single other territory in the entire Egypt quadtych, you should change it to something simpler (like just dropping Nobo entirely from the map text and leaving it for the XML).
OK...i have adjusted the size of the text - still kept the Nobo bit as i wished but have moved most of those tert names to two lines. I don't think it would be wise to have something not on the map but in the xml...that really confuses some players - IMHO and FME.
Also, another thing I noticed: you changed the subtitle for the map to "The Gold Kingdom". They're most famous history-wise as the New Kingdom (or at least, it was Nubian pharaohs at the head of said kingdom). Any particular reason for the change?
Yes, while i started off with the New Kingdom (and it may be that to us in that it has only just be discovered) it was well known to the Pharaohs Tutmose & Ramesses who reigned well before the period when Taharqa came to power in the late period decline of this civilization. There are many temples and statues to those Pharaohs, so i guess it was not really a new kingdom.
Accordingly, for the map sequence subtitle, i have re-named it the Gold Kingdom.
Version 8 below
Changes:
1. new text size
2. painted desert
3. adjusted colours on the terts, particularly those region 2 and 3
4. adjusted the feel of the desert roads
