Re: WWII Europe / World 2.1 Map Size

Has anybody ever tried to produce a 630px-wide version of World 2.1?
I'm not offering my services, just curious!

And I'll leave this thread to die now ;-)

MrBenn wrote:So back to my original point, I think that either World 2.1 should be re-sized, or qwert (and mibi/Supermax come to mention it(neither of whom are hopeless noobs with random rubbish ideas)) should be allowed an exception to the normal guidelines.

I disagree with this wholeheartedly. Lack has a problem with maps being too large so no new maps are allowed to be above a certain size. Current maps that exceed the guidelines should not be changed to meet them because it would only serve to lower the quality of a current map annoying/infuriating players.

This is different from new maps because no one is currently playing games on those maps or has experience with them.

Changing World 2.1 would only make things worse.

A graphics artist did try to make a World 2.1 to fit within the current guidelines, but most of the problems revolved around name readability as I remember.

The new UI is unfortunately delayed. (More money would certainly bring it faster, as Lack could get some more employed help!)

I posted this in Suggs + Bugs, i still think it could be implemented right now as it is:

<-------------------->

<Subject>:

* Concise Idea: Move the game menus on the left to the top during games, and add drop down menus.

<Body>:

* Suggestion Idea: ^^^^
* Specifics:

Here is a picture that was posted by qwert a while back but was never really pursued.

"what you think of these?Can Lack arange site to look like these?In that way you get more space for big maps.
Click image to enlarge.

"

When it was posted, a problem came up:
Bad Speler wrote: I rarely visit Live Chat, My Feedback and My Ignore List, so I would not always know when I receive a new PM, it might be weeks before I would realise on that layout.

But we could always have this as a solution:

menu bar wrote:Game Menu|Interaction Menu [1 new message]|Personal Menu

drop down menu wrote:Interaction Menu
.....Live Chat
.....Inbox[1 new]
.....My Feedback
.....My Ignore List

plus: it would not be during the forums-- only during games.

*Why it is needed:

The only reason as to why map makers cannot make larger maps is because we dont have the space. Well here is the space!

Qwets you cant use the development of your map as an excuse to speed up an increased map size.

While I'm not reopening the map size debate, I'd like to point people in the direction of a poll I've put up in GD... If we can establish common monitor sizes, then I may be able to make an argument for bigger large maps :arrow: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=126245

I remember the main reason that maps couldn't be made bigger was that the site was designed for 1024x768 resolution because that was what most peoples resolution was. However the browser size statistics have sky rocketed over the last couple of years. 76% of people now have a resolution reasonably higher than that.

Hopefully a site redesign for higher res monitors and bigger maps will come around sooner rather than later :D

It would appear that we're finally making some progress towards larger maps... The details are uncertain, but I'm fairly confident that should a map need more space than the current restrictions allow, that we'll be able to make room for it. I'll keep you posted with more information as and when I can.
