Today it was bottom against second bottom, with both teams looking to pick up a win to kick start their season. If Redcar Royals lose today it would leave them bottom of the table with no points and with a long way to catch up, it is an essential game for them today.
Match Report
The game started off as a dire game. There was no skill, no good moves made and no chances created in the opening stages. Both teams seemed more scared of conceading than thinking about making attacks of their own. As a result the first 20 mins went by without incident with Thunder Hawks being the margonally better side.
Eventually RR began too pick up their game with a few nice passes and flicks and it managed to create the first chance on goal in the 27th minute. Joe Cole played a cross in along the ground towards Babel, Babel dumied the shot and let the ball roll on to Tevez. The Argentine stuck it first time and it forced Given to make a superb save.
This seemed to liven the game up a bit with Redcar beginning to look like a decent side for the first time this season. They passed the ball well and created a few openings, one of these came on 38 mins. Tevez skinned Ferdinand rotten before squaring the ball to Joe Cole, Cole looked up and seen Downing in space at the back post and then he chipped it through to him. Downing chested it down and hit it on the volley, Given was a match for it however. Downing really should have headed that he gave Given too much time to react.
The half time score was 0-0 but at least RR had picked up there game and started to make it look more interesting. Although at the start of the second half the game reverted back to what it was like at the start of the first half.
RR had lost thier touch and Thunder Hawks were looking as dull as ever, they havent created 1 chance all game, or that was the case until 65 mins. A mistake by Senderos gave Denilson the ball in a decent position. Denilson played in Pederson who hit is shot first time. The ball seemed to take a wierd jump of the poor surface and as a result his shot was squiffed. However this actually knoked it up, looping in the air and off of the bar Pederson was their again for the rebound this time he hit the ball cleanly but straiaght into the arms of Jaaskalinen, a terrible miss.
After this Thunder Hawks sprung to life ands started to play the ball around well. They finally started to create chances even if they were only pot-shots. The next major chance however, fell to Redcar. They hit TH on the break after some good defending by Neville, he cleared the ball to Tevez who ran at the Hawks defense. Tevez slipped it through to Downing who took on the shot. It flew through the air and Given could only watch it fly past him and rebound off of the bar. Sagna cleared and the chance was gone.
Late on, 88 mins to be exact Thunder Hawks got a chance to win the game. Berbatov and Ballack combined and for the first time in the game left the Redcar defense shattered. Berbatov fed it through to Denilson who had a free shot just 10 yards out. He smashed it goalwards and Jaaskalinen could only manage a small flick on the ball, this was enough it went just wide and the game finished inthe way it deserved to, 0-0.
Redcar Royals 0-0 Thunder Hawks
Game 4 on its way.
