bluer yes,
why is there some sort of creamy/white-ish boarder on some boarders on the graphics test?
the key/legend looks out of place, like it hovering or fixed there (complete opposites i know!).
im not too keen on the font youre usuing for the key, i know that that goes with the theme but for some reason its not for me - that is probably just me though :)

Will do.

That is just where i erased the boarder and didn't replace it, dont worry, its only there untill we have a final decisision on coastline.

like i said, the key is just there because i have not got round to changing it (which i will when the graphics for the rest of the map are more settled) I'll make it look good later, but for now treat it as purely functional.

I like the red continent (as yet unnamed) and Syaland. Either of them would work for me.

I changed my vote from Syaland to the Dark Red in Sweden. So far, the old font seems to be winning, though. :(

Okay chaps, I've redone the boarders after the results of the poll, Any good? I've also kept the old font for now, but left the poll and graphics test up in case we need to come to a new descision on that.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I think that the map looks "bad" because its borders are TOO accurate. There's no generalization on the edges like in other maps, making any stray pixels look bad instantly. I would say instead of total accuracy, scaling it back a little bit and creating straighter lines will help out the map's look tremendously.

I rather like the current style of borders. It looks like it was hand-drawn, which is good for a medieval map.

One thing about the boarders, i drew them when the background texture was invisible, for some reason, this made rather unnapealing brown bits in the borders, making them look strange. Anyways, I've already started getting rid of those, but it may take a bit before i get enough free time to compleate it.

As for streightening out boarders, I may try to iron it out in a few places where it compromises graphics, but wheter I go further will have to depend on what other people think.

Some of the borders still look a bit pixely.

Do you have names for the Blue and Red continents? I guess you could call them Mid and South Jutland, if you needed to...

I think the water could be made a bit darker still. I like the relative amount of each color in it, just make it darker.

You need attack lines to connect the many island territories.

This is looking good, though :)

I'll look into that.

Sure, I was holding back a little as I'm a little worried about it getting too similar to the blue in jutland, I'll have a little play anyway.

Aye aye, I'll take a look at doing that as well. Got a free weekend which should help.

I think the continent border between Halland and unplayable Sweden, specifically near Hox and Halmstath, is the best example. Other areas include:
Ostaerst - Unplayable
Barae - Othaens
Istathe - Eilaem
Red (?) - Blue (?) continent borders
Lofraeth - Abo

There may be more, but those happened to catch my eye. Also, the border between Laland and Falstaer isn't fully visible - maybe move the Laland text over to the left so it's more clear?

My comments:

Graphics:
- The legend washes out the teal continent's color, so much so that I can't read it
- The color palette seems so...plain and does not remind me of Denmark's awesomeness as the country that had Beowulf and Hamlet. I don't know how to suggest to fix it, but I suppose do a complete rework of the way the map looks.
- The lack of texture makes the entire map go flat. Putting some on it will do wonders, and may invalidate my second comment on graphics.

Gameplay:
- Hard to make comments here as there are no island attack routes as of yet. I'll suggest some:
  • Vaendle to Laeso
  • Laeso to Fyaerae
  • Abo to Anund
  • Anund to Halmstath
  • Ostaerst to Burghaendaeholm
  • Albo to Burghaendaeholm
  • Barae to Fakae
  • Moon to Fakae
  • Imbrae to Laland
  • Istathe to Langaeland
  • Sundz to Langaeland
  • Laland to Langaeland
  • Almundae to Othaens
  • Abo to Samso
  • Samso to Tuzae
  • Stro to Lyuthgud

Thanks again guys, All those points I will try to work on.

TaC, on the first post if you click on the first draft map, you'll see a version with the sea routes. A lot of them are the same or very similar to the ones you suggested, but a couple are different. (I actually shaped the rest of the map with those sea routes in mind for gameplay)

I would really like to see a version with really light-brown old paper looking oceans.
Also, I think you could choose a bit more readable font.

Whoops, looks like someone thaught I'd abandoned this. Exams and coursework came up and stopped me doing anything for several months. Anywho, in a week it'll all be finished so I'll leave it in here 'till then but EXPECT A MAJOR GRAPHICS UPDATE!

We tagged everything that had been sitting for more than six weeks or so. PM me when you want to move this back out.

Thanks Oaktown, will do. :)

Already started on the new graphics which will hopefully give a more handmade sense to the map and I've downloaded some new fonts which are very nice to look at but readability has still to be tested.

First of all, I know I said NEW UPDATE SOON!!!!!!!11!!1!!, but.. well things kinda got on top of me and end of august sort of turned into beggining of november. Sorry about that and I'm afraid my life atm means that my level of consistancy is likely to be about that much ;)

Anyway, to the map! Been planning it for long enough and the new look should be an improvement (and hopefully the new font won't inspire quite as many problems). Used some lovely new tools which everyone else has probably known since time began but nvm. Sea routs need touching up? Comments welcome! :)

Wow, great map. This looks ten times better than your original. I have only two nitpicks. First of all, your font isn't easy to read, but that is easily fixed. Secondly, there are a few small island territories that you will have a very hard time putting numbers on (e.g. Anund, Imbrae, and Samso). Other than that, it is an awesome improvement. I'll be looking for you back in the foundry soon.

Thanks Mr Squirrel (Got to be one of the best avvys I've seen btw), glad you like the new map.

Do you mean the Bonus box font (which is very easy) or the main territories? (which will require either a changed font or borders to be redrawn a little to enlarge it - I'll have a little play with that when I get time)

As for the small islands, I'm less sure. Perhaps for the larger Islands (Laeso, Moon, Imbrae and possibly Samso) I could distort them a little to make them large enough to fit. For Anund, I am considering putting it in the sea on the north of the island. Langeland is more of a mess, but theres the possibility of again using the sea south-west of the islands, just above the name. Does that strike people as possible?

Thanks again and looking forward to rejoining the foundry fray :D
