Skoffin just cancelled her game because people keep popping up and stealing players. I for one have been planning for awhile, and haven't modded in a fair while....(4 months? 3? ) Whatever, that doesnt matter. With so many games, i feel obligated to join them. I don't know why, Im a nice person. I can't concentrate on all these games now. So, after I finish all my games, I will mod my final game, then Im stopping mafia. It's not as fun anymore. I'll say this much I haven't done an invite only one b/c I wanted players to join on their own although the one I'm having signups for was really meant to introduce noobs to nonvanilla. I do agree though we have too many new people coming in and just creating games that really have no business doing it yet. At least none of them have done an NES though

If all the experienced players do this, there will be enough people to fill the properly announced games and everyone will be able to focus on the few games they're in.

i agree, jnd dont just quit playing mafia altogether reduce you amont of games and youl go back to enjoying it, if people like you leave for that reason we will have even less players to fill peoples games. I would have liked to start modding games but i dont think i will untill the number of games goes way down.

No, I'm joking... And I totally understand your pain. Mafia definitly has lost a certain something as of late, not rightly sure what it is or where it's gone, but something is definitly different. The last influx of mafia'ers has brought a few good players but also has brought a number of people who join games just to submarine/not post anything of substance, which really doesn't help our already-dying mafia community. But it's not really the players killing it, it's the community in general killing it by not sticking to the que, flooding the boards with games, people joining too many games, submariners, half-assed mods, etc. It's not one person's fault, it's all of our faults that this is dying.

I'd hate to see these boards a few months from now, not gonna be many names left that I'll recognize me thinks.

to be honest lovo it was aimed at all you guys and girls that organise private games around here and who refuse to even consider admitting new players like me. I have moaned about this in games in the past ie pvt games for high rankers but since i started playing mafia games it strikes me this place is far more elitish/snobbish than any other part of this site towards guys like me that are not part of the golden mafia circle and as of now theres no way for us new players to even break in no matter how many games we play or how we do in those games

I guess im not that worried about it. I think in our humble little mafia community we have little peaks of activity and then people end up making too many games and some of the games suffer as a result. still eventually things seem to level out a little more and there are fewer games that get started which seem to go just fine.

So in an incredible change from my normal standard...let the market sort itself so to speak. eventually this new surge of games will slow, and then there will be a little more balance.

Also, its important to remember we are talking about a game or a community of games. Its supposed to be fun and probably should never be taken so seriously than you end up not having fun because of the way things are operating. Join the games you want, and start the games you want. If everyone joins every game available and 100 mods open games, the quality of each game will be low. But if only the same people get to mod games over and over and mod them whenever the mood or theme strikes them, then people are going to miss out on modding, which is pretty fun in and of itself.

Just try and have a good time with it all.

Rebel it's different for everyone. I mean my list was not based on skill at all. I had Life-Saver first, and as much as I hate to admit it, we all know she isn't good at mafia. My list was based mainly on who I liked, not who was good. The thing is I haven't gotten to know you, or any of the other n00bs that play here. But once I do, you'll be on my invite list (when I actually use it) That 's how I do it. And besides I run open setups mainly for a reason. I don't like to let anyone not play is they want to, or play if they don't want to. But of course, I will beg to some certain people to join.

I agree things will work themselves out but the question is how many players will leave before that happens? I like this community for the players and have no interest once the 'regs' are gone, to be honest. You know we'll be off-site sooner then later but that's not a cure as the player pool is guaranteed to stagnate.

I'm just being pessimistic I guess but I see many leaving in the upcoming months, perhaps with new to replace them but that's not the same.

To rebelman: I really can't agree. I'm a complete noob here, and I've found more than enough games for me to play. I can't see myself doing more than 5 games at once, and personally I don't care about joining private games when there are so many public games available. I don't feel snobbed or left out here at all, in fact, I've found this part of the site far more welcoming than the rest of CC.


I think that yes, there are too many games around now, but soon the flux will slow down and then there'll be too few games, and it will flow back and forth.

Big QFT for the first part. If people were not joining/wanting to play every game out there I'm sure there would be less activity problems. As for the invite-only games, it's true that nowadays many experienced mods tend to want only a specific player base, which is too reduced to cope with it to start with (and doesn't make so much sense nowadays considering there's a good bunch of newer players too). But either way there's plenty of games open to everyone so I don't really see the point of complaining about it... In summary for the betterment of mafia here:
Players, learn to say no. Mods, do whatever you want but don't be way picky. My 2 cents

Eh, I don't think this place is too snobbish and elitist. I haven't seen too many invite only ones lately, and ones that had went with a 'invite prefered player list first, and then have signups'.
For my formerly planned experimental game however it was largely going to be invite, but I had 'new players' on the list. Such as /, Dito, Yorkie, and others. My only requirements for my game was that everyone had played a minimum of one game and know what they're doing. (This game was more restricted then my previous game as, y'know, I was testing out roles and needed to be sure they were done properly)
Eh, guess I could just not be seeing the elitism as I'm generaly on the invite lists, even though I'm a terrible player.
