Why don't you leave this tournament alone??? Or if you are in your crusade of justice then why don't you ask all tournaments about WWII banned because a lot of innocent people died and got hurt in that war? Or why aren't you protesting against Soviet Union or WWII maps? For many nations, these wars and that time of period are bringing up horrible memories about their people and history.

It's clear that idiots only protest a tournament... This is what it is - just a tournament. Not meant to be against anybody or anything. Just a story to support games.

Grow up, people.

I hope you get it running, gdeangel :)

I have followed this thread for almost a week now. I haven't posted in it because I wanted to see where it would go and I wanted to give it some thought.

To me, the most important thing is the intent of the tourney. I don't believe the theme of the tournament is to celebrate the final outcome of history, but merely to reenact the factual, historical events as they ultimately unfolded.

If I thought that anyone were trying to gloat, make fun of a person(s), or rub noses in another's demise, through the use of a tournament, I would have shut it down long ago. I honestly don't believe that is the case here.

Hulmey, you are a valued member of CC and your opinions are as equally considered and weighed as any other member.

But, we can not rewrite history, or it's outcome, as painful as it may be at times.

In the grand scheme of things, this is just a game. Whether this tournament runs or doesn't will change nothing that happened in the past. It's intent is not to offend, but merely to entertain. No more, no less. Therefore, I believe the tournament will be allowed to run.

I highly doubt that you can compare the Easter Uprising's and/or Bloody Sunday with World War 2 and so on!! Micheal Collins and his gang were terroists. How you can glorify loyalists and republicans who have car bombed, shot and totured many innocent civilian's over a certain amount of time is just not right!

Conquer Club are allowing this Tournament to progress and thats there preogative. I shall post no more on the Topic

Well - time to call it. We haven't gotten the number of signup's I had hoped for. I am calling off the tournament since five people one each side with four challenges is basically not very much of a strategic challenge.

As to the detractors of this tournament, I think you might want to look back into the history of the Easter Rebellion, with has been regarded by many as pre-dating the later tactics of the IRA that involved "terrorist" tactics. The even was something of a coordinated, although clandestinely planned, uprising targetting the establishment of a politically autonomous foothold. Was it a dishonorable tactic given the context of the engagement of the Empire on the continent a la World War I? Perhaps. Yet some have suggested that the heavy handed response against the Republicans in the wake of the rebellion in fact resulted in them going underground to subsequently engage in the tactics you seem to be addressing your remarks to.

At the same time, I would point out that the Easter rising was a specific event in history that happened over 90 years ago. Put in context, people who lost family in the Civil War aren't out there flaming the fact that there is a Civil War map, even though there was plenty of bushwacking, kidnapping of freemen, etc. The reason is that it's history, beyond living generational memory. If you disagree, I think we can agree that its a question of context and leave it at that. Since almost 50% or more of the people signing up here has no preference for which side they fought on, I'd say there is a sizable group here that shares the contextual perspective in which this tournament was conceived.

That is it... there is nothing more to it.
