i think shanghai has no flag, or one that's not well-known. the communist emblem is probably best because shanghai is governed by the same laws as beijing.

if we have 4 cities (beijing in hebei, hong kong in guangdong, taipei in taiwan and shanghai), then the small bonus must be +1 for any 3 cities. wisse, can we move shanghai to it's proper location on the south side of the yangzi delta (zhejiang), so that it's possible for a southern player to gain the +1 bonus for 3 cities without crossing the river? all small bonuses are in the north just now, which is a bit unfair.

zunzee wrote:make the bridge connecting Henan to Hebei connect to Shanxi instead.

normally, i'd expect most players to ignore the +3 bonus for holding all cities because beijing is so far away. however, the henan-hebei bridge gives importance to beijing, so we ought to keep this bridge.

i've had another look at the map. if we have a henan-shanxi bridge too, then hebei is still important because it's the only way out of the north (apart from the liaoning-shandong bridge), so i have no objection to a henan-shanxi bridge.

OK here is what I am going to do

1) add a 4th city to the zhejiang territory
here is a flag I found for Shanghai
    Image

2) change the city bonus to +1 for 3 and +3 for all
3) move blue city icon to Taiwan territory
4) add shanghai icon to the legend

Question:

Am I adding a henan-shanxi bridge and KEEPING the current Henan to Hebei?

or

Am I adding a henan-shanxi bridge and REMOVING the current Henan to Hebei?

Let me know about the bridge and I will have an update by tomorrow morning.

no, don't use this flag. it represents only a foreign-administered part of pre-ww2 shanghai, in which the chinese government had no jurisdiction, not the whole of the city. it will therefore be a symbol of foreign imperialism and oppression to those natives who know what it is and who will welcome the sight of it as much as some black americans might welcome the confederate southern cross flag.

the only current shanghai city emblem i can find is the one below, but i think most chinese wouldn't recognise it at all.

http://www.shme.com/intro/emblem.htm

i therefore favour using the same communist emblem for both shanghai and beijing.

over to u, wisse.

i have a slight preference for keeping the current henan to hebei bridge. if we need to remove a bridge to close the north, then i'd like it to be the shandong-liaoning bridge instead. however, i am reasonably happy with either option.

eum i have a bit preference to remove this bridge and move it to the other spot, so eum i think you should do that, it adds a bit more strategy to the game and less easy to get the 3 bonus

OK here is version 8

-added a 4th city to the zhejiang territory and use the communist symbol used in bejing
-changed the city bonus to +1 for 3 and +3 for all
-moved blue city icon to Taiwan territory
-added another icon to the legend (for the 4 cities)
-added a henan-shanxi bridge
-removed the current Henan-Hebei bridge?

Once these are agreed upon I will update the XML.

Just to let everyone know, I will be done with this map after the XML edit, regardless of Quench or not. If there are any other changes I will give the map back to Wisse and let him finish. When I took over to finish I thought there was only several little minor things to change. I have spent a considerable amount of time on this that I had not planned. I have many other things going on right now as well. I am glad that I could help out and want to get this map to get done.

The grey arrows could do with being a little sharper and Id like to see the E.Xizang in the legends a little darker for readability reasons :)

Other than that:

ty gimil, i don't know if it is easy to make the border of the arrows sharper, and i can read E. Xizang perfectly in the legend, not sure if others are having problems with it

E.Xizang is readable but I think its a little to light and blends a little with the background color in hte legends, jsut a little clarity would be nice :)

So from a CA perspective, does this map need more work or is it done? I am just asking because if there is more work to do I will be handing it back over to Wisse to finish.
