I am presnetly reworking the stations to take into account the need for the simpler codes to correspond with the xml. therefore Paris is not out the firing line for re-design, although IO would like to try and keep it in this style, same as with RAIL USA.

Why should paris have only 4, LP?

No...the three letters won't fit downwards in that side box. Well at small font size 7 they fit but one can't read that on the small map.
The only other thing to do is remove the Line Code BRX (eg) from the legend and simply have A, B, C, D, and code it that way.

Version 24
This change is in response to Oaktown's posting about the colours and codes, and i hope it solves the problems.

The stations will appear in the xml drop list as

London LON(A)
London LON(C)
London LON(D)

and the map line codes have been changed accordingly.

1 station buildings don't need a code, nor do stations will three lines running through, as these will simply appear as

Koln KLN
Frankfurt FRT

Paris has not yet been tackled...on the to do list, but i am hoping to keep the current format with the letters alongside on the map.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the bolded station names were both easier to read, and better looking. Just an opinion. The new version looks.....alright in that regard, I just think the last one looked better.

For completeness - I would add the "alpha" code to all stations... This 'should' also help everyone to be able to tell the exact continents if they are CB... (Although as I'm not I can't guarantee that is the case)

Don't you think that is "overdoing it"?
All station codes on the map are in black, so i don't see why a single station like Frankfurt needs a line code.
This would also be inconsistant with what is in Rail USA, where LMR Lamar is a single station, even though it covers two lines. :)

EDIT// Gees i know who to talk myself out of a situation, you are correct C. I will add all line codes to station.

I just think that each station should be the same - else people will look at the letters and think - what are those letters for and why are they only on half of the stations?

You know I approved this map he :D

Lets see if I can give them to you in order :D

British Rail: 4 terr, 1 def/att, 1 cont => Bonus of 2 (good enough)
Benelux Express: 4 terr, 2 def/att, 9 cont => Bonus of 3 (make it 3, only Hamburg and Paris need defending, I know I love this one, but overpowering it is too much)
InterCity Express: 5 terr, 3 def/att, 8 cont => Bonus of 4 (As I see it now, Lausane is only a transit station, and doesn't has a stop for this line, this making this continent rather different then before, Bonus of 4 is also still too much, 3 at best!!!)
Sim-Orient Express: 9 terr, 6 def/att, 9 cont => Bonus of 7 (6 stations to defend, give it a mex of 8, NO MORE)
Trein Grande Vitesse: 4 terr, 4 def/att, 9 cont => Bonus of 5 (as the bonus is set to 3 for VERY good reasons (will explain again if needed) I am fine with it)
Rail Ideria: 7 terr, 2 def/att, 1 cont => Bonus of 3 (2 is MORE then fine, same as above)
Scandinavian Rail (sp?): 7 terr, 2 def/att, 3 cont => Bonus of 3 (I am tempted to go to 2, depends if you want this to be a stronghold)
Nord Express: 6 terr, 5 def/att, 9 cont => Bonus of 6 (good)
EuroCity Express: 7 terr, 5 def/att, 6 cont => Bonus of 6 (good, thou dificult to read on small map)
Orient Express: 6 terr, 5 def/att, 8 cont => Bonus of 6 (5 to defend, thou hard to hold line, 6 is good, 7 I can life with) (Lausane transit station?)
Ven-Sim Orient Exp: 6 terr, 5 def/att, 8 cont => Bonus of 6 (good)
Trenitalia: 5 terr, 3 def/att, 2 cont => Bonus of 3 (good)
Baltic Express: 3 terr, 2 def/att, 2 cont => Bonus of 2 (2 is MORE then fine!)
Vilnius Express: 3 terr, 1 def/att, 1 cont => Bonus of 1 (2 is good, thou this is a Oceania)
Trans Europa Exp: 7 terr, 5 def/att, 9 cont => Bonus of 6 (6 is fine, somewhat edge of fighting, can be taken with the Oriental ones, depends what you want, won't shoot you if you stay 7)
Ukraine Rail: 6 terr, 2 def/att, 2 cont => Bonus of 3 (I said 2 earlier, I am sticing to that)

Onbekende...thanks..i have adjusted some of those bonuses as per your request in the Version 24 above. Please F5 to C changes.

All stations except Florence, Venice, Koln, and Sofia should now have a service line code on them including Paris.

Everyone happy?! :)

i've checked nothing else but names in the xml.

GLW Glasgow
KLN Koeln
BUD Budapest
E Train a Grande Vitesse
G Scandinavian Rail (perhaps Scan Rail is better, as this latter name is in actual use)
SPG St Petersburg
KLG Kaliningrad
BUC Bucharest
CBA Reggio di Calabria
BRU Brussels or Brussel (both versions appear in xml)

attacking: stations separated (not "interested") by lines cannot attack each other (no comma wanted between lines and cannot)

i find odd the choice of stations at the france-spain frontier. all other stations on the map are well-known cities but these. did u consider san sebastian and perpignan as alternatives at any point?

some of the city codes are somewhat unorthodox, for example BCN is almost universally used as shorthand for barcelona and, similarly, CPH for copenhagen, but i think no-one will lose sleep over this.

i also like the visual link between paris and rail usa's chicago.

Thanks for that ian...changed in xml and map.

I chose those stations because of their absolute closeness to the borders.

Done.

yes i think it is absolutely necessary to have that link.

Changes are made to version 24 above.

Cairns,

The XML - is out of date I'm afraid...

The new XML means that we have...

Code: Select all
<components>
  <territory>john</territory>
  <continent>dave</continent>
</components>

Code: Select all
<components>
  <component>john</component>
</components>

Also I'd consider a colon... i.e.
A: British Rail
B: Benelux Express
