Masters of the Map of Kings: Feudal War [FULL]
Posted: Tue Nov 04, 2008 1:37 pm
Hi all.
Feudal war continues to grow in popularity, and for many players it is the ultimate map. It is simple in concept and yet incredibly rich in strategy. In fact in my opinion, and I know this opinion is shared by many, its is probably the map which is the most rewarding of skillful play and the least rewarding of luck in dice or drop. Although I have played more than 1000 games on FW - I still regularly see new strategic ideas being employed successfully against me and others. During this continuing evolution of feudal play - a number of very fine players have established powerful reputations. Many of these players have never played against each other. It is predominantly this fact that has inspired this tournament idea.
The time has come to pit the very best of the very best of feudal players against each other.
Masters of the Map of Kings will be contested by the 20 best available feudal masters on an all-play-all basis. Game play will be a combination of team play, 6-player escalating cards games and of course 1v1, with a variety of settings, but all on the feudal war map.
The tournament will be overseen by a committee of three: Army of Achilles, LFAW and fatharry.
We invite anyone interested to apply to play. From amongst those that apply, 20 will be selected as follows:
5 players selected on overall ranking points.
5 players selected on feudal maprank.
5 players selected based on recent feudal tournament results.
4 players selected by a count of votes cast by the committee members.
1 player selected through a knockout qualifying tournament (all players will be eligible to enter this qualifying tourney.)
1.Tournament Format.
The tournament format is not set in stone at this point, and the committee will welcome discussion about format in this thread. The format which we propose at present is as follows:
Each player will play 44 games over 11 weeks (4 new games per player started each week):
19 x 1v1
10 x 2v2 doubles
9 x 3v3 trips
6 x 6 player escalating cards standard games
Thus each player will play against each other player: once in a 1v1, at least twice and not more than 3x in team games, at least once and not more than twice in the 6-player games.
Each player will partner each other player at least once and not more than twice in team games.
Within the above constraints, pairings will be random.
The total number of games in the tourney will be 290.
2.Scoring
1 point for a 1v1 win
1 point per player in the winning team for the 2v2 or 3v3 games.
3 points for a 6-player standard win.
There will be a total of 440 points available - so an average of 22 per player.
The maximum possible points haul for a single player is 56.
The Champion will be the player with the highest score after all games have been played.
3. Settings
Each game will have a HOST. Each player will host 14 or 15 of his 44 games. The host will choose the settings i.e. fog/sun, freestyle/seq, reinforcements and spoils (except for the 6 player games which will all have escalating spoils.) The host (and his team where applicable) must also join first (this is especially for the freestyle games.)
Unfortunately there will be no speed games- it's just too complicated logistically to co-ordinate speed games. I realise an entire culture has arisen around freestyle speed on this site, and that most players with serious ranking points have earned these points through this game style. However the focus of the tournament is on strategic thinking rather than speed.
Please give your views freely about any aspect this tournament.
Please indicate if you would like to be considered as a candidate for the tournament.
We will also welcome nominations of players, so if there is a player or players who in your opinion are amongst the best of the best on feudal - let us know.
Every post to this thread will be taken seriously by the committee - so let us know what you think.
Best wishes to all
